EC didn't want to risk Doyle and Prince fighting over Susannah.

I mean, gosh, how could Doyle play with all of Prince's pancake makeup all over his knuckles? That would be awfully distracting.

Awfully distracting...

Its not Prince's style. He would have said no. He wouldn't have felt confortable with all those great guitarists, thinking he would have to out-do them all since he is VERY COMPETATIVE. He did it once for the R & R Hall Of fame, but it was one performance and few accomplished guitarists, here he would have to face MANY. Prince considers shit like this to be a competition, don't know why, but he does...he's a Gemini, go figure smile

He's actually known for being humble, regardless of how some feel about his playing...

clapton is not overrated.
in the past i used to hate eric clapton.i thought he was awful guitar player.
i only liked cream.

but after i saw "live from reptile tour 2001-one more car one more raider "dvd
i gained a habbit to watch erioc clapton's guitar solo on "my father eyes
"
he totaly killed it with that solo.he was on fire.eric clapton was a wild guitar player in his cream ,derek and the dominos, blind faith days.
he became a guitar wanker in the '80-es.

but now days he plays with such urgency and fire.

for example on live from reptile tour,
all guitar solos contaid his long forggoten gritty(jimi hendrix ) sound.
all solos were fast and had a bit of urgency in them.
i highly recommend following tracks
eric clapton-stone free(hendrix cover)-wild furios guitar playing

derek and the dominos live-little wing

sunshine of your love-any version

b.b. king and clapton-marry me(getting funky with b.b. king)

eric clapton-five long years

lenny kravitz and eric clapton-all along the watchtower

eric clapton and sting-it's probably me
bell bottom blues
and of course the real thing electric layla...

Hey, bud, at risk of jacking this thread even more, I must say: I dig Slowhand's playing and all (listening to that Stone Free right now, actually), but I find the cut-and-paste approach to his solos on Pilgrim downright shady.

Listen to "One Chance" closely, and you'll see what I mean. Not an honest solo, but more like a Franken-solo.

He didn't invite Prince (struggling to get this thing back on topic) because he felt sympathy toward P, who's taken up with the ugliest, cheapest Strat in all creation. EC didn't want to upstage him with his multicolored (and cheap-looking) deal.

There.
