Electric Intercourse

I finally heard this song recently and I was wondering what everyone here thinks of it.

I have heard often that this song was "criminally" not released?

I dont seem to agree, its a good song but not that great.

What do you guys think?

I absolutely love this song! I am one of the people that believes it should've been released. I respect your opinion though.

AMEN!!!! Can I add THE GRAND PROGRESSION. I know it's kind of a mellow song but there's something about it I love.

Old Friends 4 Sale (original) is my all time favorite Prince song along with Sometimes It Snows In April.

I freakin LOOOOOVE this song. I'm not mad at him for replacing it with "The Beautiful Ones" but it just goes to show you how incredible the music was at that time. If there is ever a remastered version of Purple Rain, "Electric Intercourse" BETTER be on there.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Apparently we would not have been given The Beautiful Ones, if Electric Intercourse was left on the album. Still, the tune is reason enough for Crystal Ball 2 or Rodhouse Garden to be released.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I'd like to hear a studio version of it. The circulating live one (the only one, right?) sounds a bit thin. Could use a little fleshing out. But the song is nice. It definitely grows on you.

I actually have two different versions, one is obviously live but the other version sounds like it could have been recorded in a studio.

One of my top 5 favorite songs. But I still think "A better place to die" AKA "moon beam levels" is more beautiful.

Same here! There's no way in hell I could get pissed off that The Beautiful Ones made it to the album in its place; I think it's a better song and P's best ballad. Nonethelesss, Electric Intercourse is an incredibly beautiful ballad and stands alongside the best of his slow jams.

Anyone know if he's performed this song outside of the 1st Ave Purple Rain show?

One of his best songs. It's better than "Do Me, Baby", it really is.

nod And you can absolutely compare it to "The Beautiful Ones" (which I worship).

"Electric Intercourse" is definitely one big reason I am a Prince fan.

I've heard what could be the rehearsal takes for the '83 First Ave show,
where you hear Prince saying "Wake Up Wendy" and "Auntie Emm, Auntie Emm" at the end. There is a clean run with no messing around either. I think this is superior to the live First Ave recording.

This topic has been regurgitated about a million times here, but what the hell.
It's a great song.

I love your quote Willammelvinhicks. Miles cracks me up every time I watch that video.

IE is a great song. Mostly due to the fact that this joint was slated for PR. Anything and everything P did musically during PR is the absolute joint. So, this makes this song a key to any lock in any P collection. It don't even matta if it's secondary to BO or 17 Days or SAIMH or any of that funk. The joint. Grand Prog is similarly brilliant.

unremarkable

It's amazing seeing him perform that at the first ave show!

And yeah, I definitely have a studio version. Before I got it, I believed none existed.
