Does every version of that song have such shitty quality? I can hardly hear what the hell he's talking about. Something about sisters, pools, doctors, not paying the light bills, drinking banana daquiris, purple bananas, and bronzed dildos.

I love the song....always imagine a video in my head: Prince laying on a sofa in front of a huge fireplace in a dark baroque-style room, drinking a banana daiquiri and thinking of his lost love, so romantic!

Well, until The Hits-B-Sides came out it was nearly impossible to get a clear version because everybody taped it from record.

Outtake!?... it was a B-Side!
And yeah, that means it WAS officially released, so go out and BUY it.

It was the B-side to 'I Would Die 4 U', and the regular 7" edit is included
on the still-available 'The Hits / The B-Sides' 3 CD set.
The full length version was only available on the 'I Would Die 4 U' 12",
so eBay or filesharing is the only way you're gonna get a copy of that one.

Maybe I'm warped, but I'm not sure why people find this song all that sad or depressing. I think Prince was trying to make a deliberately over-the-top song in all ways. I love the song, but the lyrics make me laugh. It's the way he sings them. I'm sure it's meant to be an ironic or tongue-in-cheek send-up of some of those over-wrought old 'songs about lovers dying', eg. 'Leader of the Pack' or 'Seasons in the Sun' by Terry Jacks. Especially the verse, 'Your father said it was pneumonia, Your mother said it was stress, But the doctor said u were dead And I, I say its senseless'

It's typical of Prince at that time. A fantastic, beautiful song, but you're never quite sure if he's taking the ...

eBay is lame, and I'm not going to buy a package full of songs I already own just for one song. Filesharing's how I got the version I have, and it's pretty bad quality. I should probably look around the local wrecka stow's for the 12"....

It is on the back of "I Would Die For You" 12 inch version. Which I have. Put out in late 1984. Not sure when it was recorded. Check DMSR.
