One of my friends was like "I saw Prince on TV last night talking shit about Britney Spears. Who does he think he is?" This happened a while ago like six months ago. Does anyone know how he feels about her or what he said in reference to her? I'm not exactly sure what she ment by "talking shit" about her since she could not elaborate on it very well.

If your friend is 12 years old, pay her no mind.

Prince was taking jabs at her at the Cleveland show in 98. He tried to water down his comments by saying "nothing against brittney, but...", then went into a rant about the music industry.

I think some global/general Prince comments can be applied to Brithey: She for sure not is a "real musician making real music", so Prince would dismiss her on this.

Well, whatever "shit" Prince was talking about her, at least we know he probably wasn't lying. "Who does he think he is?" Well, since he's able to make good music without relying 100% on producers and songwriters and he's able to put on a good, LIVE (biiiggg emphasis on the word "Live") show without all the fireworks and voice-overs, I'd say he's a talented musician and not just an over-paid stripper with a soundtrack. Yep, I think he has the right to voice his opinion about little Ms. Gyrate.

The man definitely has my blessings to say anything he wants about "singers" like her...

time to get some new friends!

On the MuchMoreMusic interview in Toronto, Prince was making a hint that Britney Spears approached him and told him how much he inspired her and how great he is. And he rolled his eyes after saying it.
Then he went on to saying that he's honored when people say they've been inspired by him, when they actually have talent.

With singers like Britney Spears, I just take the view that she is delcious eye-candy who turns out one decent "pop" song per LP. Her music is good to dance to but isn't about to turn into one of those songs which marks a special time in your life. It's a case of horses for courses as they say.

For instance, Toxic was excellent "pop" but nothing more.

I bought "In The Zone" on the strength of Toxic and was sourly disappointed because the rest of the LP is pure toss. Nothing else on it could really even be called a "song". It's just a series of beats at various tempos with poorly written, breathily delivered lyrics pasted on top.... IHMO.

Britney: Eye-Candy - 10/10. Musical powerhouse - 1/10.

Prince can say anything he feels like saying about any artist that is in Britney's, Eminem's...or whomeever elses league. They cant hold a fucking candle to him.

When he came down here to FL...he said in the area..."I heard ya'll let some lip syncher in my house...why'd ya'll do that for?" shaking his finger at the audience. It was a funny moment. Because Britney had JUST been there bout 2 weeks ahead.

When Prince was on the Today Show, he told Matt Lauer, "Britney Spears is a great talent at what she does but she should work on how to keep it all in her without letting the soothing liquid trickle down her mouth." He went on to say, "I invited her out to my house for an offer to show her how its really done, but she never called me back. So there you have it for young talent out here in this generation, they aren't willing and open to try new vigourous things."
