"I'm Yours" Appreciation Thread Dang, just really listened to "For You," got to the last track and was blown away. The funky driving bassline with the 70s metal guitar is rockin'. I didn't know Prince had it in him. The drumming, although a little rocky at times is rockin' too. Jeez, how old was he when he recorded this track? 19?
Dang, pretty cool, almost sounds like Jimmy Page on the guitar.

I'm a big fan of this song too. The guitar lick is amazing and some of the solo work is really good. Love the bass in the intro too... Take me baby... I'M YOURS!!!!!

Nice track, but I don't like the production. Sounds messy and blurry.
I really wonder what he could do with it today.

I wish he had more straightforward rocking tracks like this one. I really do wonder what he could do if he made a single, if not an album in the same vein as "I'm Yours."

KILLER... | |

This was a very interesting track to hear considering that for the most part that album is fairly generic light soul. I think I'd even label it a lost prince classic

The alternating guitar and bass solos in the end of the song always blow my mind, especially considering his age at the time... What's the use of being young if you ain't gonna get old

The guitar lick at the bigining just sounds so classic. The first time I heard this track i thought that I had heard it before! I think he night've been influenced by some of the prog rock bands of the time such as Rush, except there are no lyrics about going on a quest to find the lost nectar of xanado!!

I agree dude This was a very interesting track to hear considering that for the most part that album is fairly generic light soul. I think I'd even label it a lost prince classic I agree even more... This track is just another example of how great Prince really is and when you consider how old he was.... [Edited 12/19/04 3:42am]

I love that it closes the LP. Were I old enough at the time that "For You" was released, I'd would've been SO impatient 2 hear what could possibly follow an album and song like that. Classic "air guitar" song! Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

Great song! Prince's first proof to the world that he was just as much a hard rocker as he was a funkateer with nothing watered down. Andy is a four letter word.

My biggest wish was/is to hear this song, along with "Bambi" and "When U Were Mine" on a mainstream rock station. My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

"I'm Yours!"
Prince established a world-wide GUITAR DOMINATION with this song and 26 years later, has yet to relinquish it. Lovesexy Funkateer

It's a terrible, absolutely sickening piece of music but I like it.

Ok, the song is great. But guitar dominance? Gimme a break, that is just some scales up to down in good average speed. The solos are nothing incredible. They are OK.

But it hasn't a interesting melody (what makes a great solo) and its not FAST playin, well maybe at the time it was fast, but nowadays compared to the shredders of the 80's it is not fast, nor melodically interesting, so its nothing great.

I must say the most impressive aspect of this song is the drumming, I had no idea prince was that good a drummer....assuming of course that is him since I'd heard that andre cymone, david z and a couple of other people had uncredited involvement with that album. [Edited 12/20/04 15:35pm]

actually, it kinda sounds like it could be a machine in some parts, I could be way off base on that though. It doesn't matter cuz I definitely think this song is one prince's lost classics for sure

That's the first song on a rock compilation cd i have. My buddy was like "This rips off BOC" of course the song he was talking about came out in the 80's so actually its the other way around : ). Anyway one of my favorites( i love it when prince RAWKS)

Oh yeah the drumming is incredible, and i dont think is a mchine at all. I think it's Prince on the skins, maybe he was praticing very much at the time.

[Edited 12/20/04 15:35pm] I don't know. I mean the fills are good, but the drumming as a whole is dodgy, I think. What are other opinions on this?
