OK, as some of you know, I'm a Rookie Prince fan. During the past 3 years I have bought 1999, Purple Rain, Diomands & Pearls, Parade (Under the Cherry Moon Tree), Grffiti Bridge & Prince the Hits. I have also downloaded a bunch of songs from the internet too. I know have just joined this site to grow as a Prince fan and I want get as knowlegable as you guys...

WHAT DO I DO NEXT???

Hey Rookie-buy Purple Rain the movie. Buy "The Gold Experience" and "emancipation" Also, stay away from bootlegs. They are severly hit or miss and most of the time-miss.0.

Anything LIVE that he has done that you can get a hold of do it...If you hate a song on album, live you will probably love it:)

Start looking at a lot of the Live shows on tape, Sign Of the Times, Purple Rain Live..That will really convince you that Prince will always be the greatest act of all time.

i am relatively new to the org., but not new to the music i have been a fan since 1978 and i am a member of the music club, looking forward to getting to know everyone a little better. please feel free to drop me a note and let me know how things are done here.

If you can't run out and buy every single CD that Tower Records has in the Prince section, then U MUST at least get Lovesexy. It's a must-have. That was a very pivotal album in his career, a true masterpiece, and the general public only really got to hear Alphabet Street from it (what a shame).

Seriously though, no Prince collection is complete without Sign O' The Times "the movie". That is an absolute must, MUST have. Beyond that, as a starting point, you have to complete your collection of ALL of Prince's officially released albums. With many artists, especially today, once you've heard one of their albums, you've heard them all. But with Prince, that axiom does not apply. If you've heard one Prince album... then all you've heard is ONE Prince album - meaning all of his albums are quite different experiences.

On a side note: In a sense, I feel kinda' sorry for all the newbies. There's just soooo much material out there that at this point it's virtually impossible to get some of the stuff that's been released over the years. One could go broke and crazy trying to get everything.

Well, i suggest you buy emancipation asap, as well as dirty mind and controversy.

Check http://www.uptown.se, you might wanna subscribe to their magazine. It aint exactly cheap but its an excellent way for new fans (i still concider myself a newby after four years) to learn more about prince and his music.

Start listening to G.clinton, sly stone and stuff like that. Gives you an idea where prince comes from.

You can start buyin' boots, but i'll leave that up to you, cause i kinda have a problem with that.

But if there's one thing, keep enjoyin' his music, that's basically the main thing to do. keep funkin'

Get a hold to 12"s/extended/full versions of as much stuff as you can. Some of the album versions of songs are only half the song. The extended versions, especially the older ones, are incredible.

Get B-sides too. Some of Prince's best songs have been B-Sides. Erotic City, How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore, She's Always In My Hair are just a few of the songs that are favorites among Prince fans. Most can be found online.

I suggest you start searching for some seriously classic rehearsals which no self-respecting Prince fan can do without (mostly Purple Rain - Lovesexy era), as well as unofficial videos which you can now get in v good quality, like 'The Avenue', 'Miles From The Park' and 'Thieves In The temple',live from Earls Court (best 'Diamonds And Pearls show available on video).

I guarantee you won't be sorry.

Take ur time, LISTEN 2 the music, READ the lyrics, ENJOY the spine tingling response ur body will give u....we've all been there...and it's very cool.

While ur doing that, REVIEW the .org. Check out other posts b4 u post urs...U will have seen that some of ur topics have already been posted.

Afterwards, I'll look 4ward 2 ur future well-thought-out posts, and views on his music.

Go to Tower records on Grand River. They have the Uptown magazine. Also, go to Flat, Black, and Circular in the campus mall on Grand River (it's upstairs). I got my first bootleg Prince things there...plus you can listen to them. Finally, GO STATE!

I suggest getting Dirty Mind next and picking up a live concert. I have a couple if your interested.

FIRST: DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT re-do some of Prince's songs as rap songs (see theVille's profile). Please. Just don't.

Second: Start looking for old magazine articles, on eBay, collector record stores...other fans...this is a fun way to feel in a way what it was like when these albums and era's were happening.

Third: Subscribe Uptown. The very very best source for Prince info. A must have AND GET the back issues.

But please, no rapping Prince songs, that's almost blasphemous.
