I think Warners release a limited range of their catalogue on DVD-A, but as of yet, no Prince material. If they do, chances are they will be in this format.
Sony supports SACD, so u may see Musicology in this format maybe in the future? Xperience the Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com/

I think that WB could do the same thing they plan on doing with REM. Releasing a double disc set of each release in DVD-audio. Both a high def stereo mix as well as a surround mix. Outtakes/b-sides could also be added. The disc can also be a hybrid to play in cd players as well as univeral players.
Will it happen who knows? But the albums need a lot of work from a sonic perspective no gain on most mix's. Music is the best...

Jon said: so whats the difference between the super duper CD and a normal CD? I thought normal CD was perfect quality... At least as perfect as the original recording... I have no familiarity with the particular technologies, but I gather that the main difference is in the number of bits used in sampling. The human ear can feel degrading in quality if a recording is limited to less than one million levels. Normal CDs use 16 bits to represent the levels, which comes to around 65 thousand different levels. This is much lower than a million and means that the music comes across as cold. In my experience, it means that if you listen to a CD the sounds usually sound like they come from two points, the left and the right speakers, whereas vinyl recordings fill the entire room. The 'audiophile' formats use 24 bits, which represents several million different levels, effectively fixing the coldness of normal CD sound. I put 'audiophile' in quotes because this is how music should be available to the masses. It's not at all amazing technology. Instead, due to the CD standard, the masses are listening to sub-standard recordings. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

It aint easy to achieve that perfect production, never mind after pressing it or buring it as the case may be...
