Why do you think Emancipation cost less than when it was released?

I remember back in 1997 when Emancipation got a lot of promotion in magazine ads and TV. It was big at the time: wow, three discs of sex, love and liberty. But anyway, I called that New Funk number and a woman told me the price of the set and it costed $30 something dollars. Why does this set cost $7 to $10 dollars at the record stores? I remember I went 2 FYE last year just christmas shopping and it costed only $9 dollars. I was so excited, i just had to pick it up. Why does it cost less now? The set looks cool and it is collectible.

Supply and demand. It's out of print, by the way.

Anxiety

give it another ten years, it'll be going for at least three times *more* than its original retail price.

Inflation? I bet those damned Republicans had something to do with it.

Conservatives give breaks to the corporations just for this reason (to give us breaks in return), or should we make laws to force the industry to sell all CDs at a set price? Then we're talking communism.

Do you remember in the late-'90s, when you scanned a used record store bin, and it was filled with countless copies of the Milli Vinnilli album? Everyone sold it back to stores because they realized it was total shit.

Emancipation is kind of the same thing. Not to compare Prince to Milli Vinnilli AT ALL, but the same concept applies. Shitty albums end up in the dust bin, and people will give them away. In the case of an overpriced triple-album, the same also applies. I would've sold my copy years ago if I wasn't such a completionist - it wouldn't look right to have the gap in my collection. But aside from "Face Down", you'll never catch me listening to it.

I saw it in Asda (walmart UK in otherwords) for about £3.99. Thats about $6 right?

I was amazed to find it brand new in their at all!

Crystal ball was released in a few chains in UK. Just without the last 2 discs.

Another reason for cheap copies
of Emancipation - the record company
went belly up a few months after its release.
