Just bought Prince with 94 east - One Man Jam. Havent heard about that recording before. Dos anyone know something about it. When is it recorded (1975?) and who is 94 east?

In fact, anything that comes with the name "Minneapolis Genius 94East" was Prince first official band after "Champagne". The tracks were recorded in 1977 but prince didn't have a record deal a this time. He later remastered the tunes and released them in mid' 80s.Pepe willie, one of the cats, claimed later that he wrote all the songs and was the main player in the band. (come onnnnn!!!!!)

I don't know for sure, but I might have red somewhere, that it was a Family affair, Pepe (cousin) took young Prince as his protégé but Prince was already a entire band on his own, went warner came along they never got in touch again.

thanx DavidL...this pic looks like fresh out the blowout kit from that day...4 my ears 94East previewed a lot of the musical ideas that got brought out more n Purple Rain...truly i hear some "Jungle Love" amoungst others

I have the first 94 east cd and I think I'm gonna get that more recent double disc just for the hell of it.
