For the most part, I have to agree that the majority of Prince fans are music snobs. Prince has opened our eyes (and ears) to what good music is, however, I have come across several Prince fans who's music taste astonishes me. I do realize that we all have our own individual taste, but sometimes I just have to
omfg at what some people think is good music. Snoop, 50 Cent, Kylie, Britney, the Darkness, Kelis etc. barf Anyway, I know many people on this site don't like the musicians that I think are our greatest musicians of our time (Bob Dylan, Carlos Santana,), but to each his own.

I appreciate your opinion Rhonda, but after hearing Milkshake and seeing the video, I lost all respect I ever had for her as an artist. It was cheap crap IMHO!

I don't know what it was about that particular song and video, but I couldn't get into it at all. I like to shake my money maker too, but I was actually embarrassed for Kelis when I watched it. I thought it was so cheesy and unnecessary. And, now that she has those horrible gold teeth, that makes me even more embarrassed for her. wink

uhm, kelis was in the red so she had to do a milkshake to get in the black cus the debt from the overhead on the first album rolls over. it was silly but baby girl can be proud of that big ole booty LOL. prince complains all the time about artist not being allowed to develop, with the emphasis being on the bottom line right out of the box. He didnt get out of the red until 1999 and didnt hit the cover of rolling stone until that album. In a different time i'm sure Kelis's approach to creating would have been way different. but as a man i thank the good lord for baby's "milkshake".

watching a dvd of prince in paris france 1980. he was so new wave and punk rock back then. so green ! announcing the new song he wrote "jack U Off"and tuning his guitar during songs. The point is, he was my man even back then and yes i did have to fight to defend his merit as an artist. I also had to fight against what others thought of me for liking him so yes i guess you could say i'm a snob. It came from telling everybody back then he was great and enduring the bullshit. I tell my teenaged daughter ( who loves him and only knows him as iconic) what it was like back then so she understands when i turn my nose up. I payed the cost to be the boss and i wont accept Andre 3000 as a groundbreaker after one fuckin cool album. Remember when Lauryn Hill was genuis? D' Angelo's voodoo was in 2000! sustained brilliance and innovation aint easy. Alot of my childhood friends who trashed him have watched their favorite bands lose their relevance and their fuckin minds, ending up on some VH1 special. When Prince entered the hall i know that those same friends ( wherever they are) thought about me, and in response i just smirked and thought " so how ya like me now?!" biyatches!.

I couldn't help but argue with a guy who insisted that Britney Spears was a better singer then Prince. He also hated Bjork and preferred older Whitney Houston to "Your Love Is My Love" Whitney. The Bjork and of Whitney I could care less about but they're tell-tale signs. I wonder if this guys taste has improved. Haven't conversed with him in a while.

Not really. A real music snob buys just rare, underground stuff (mostly on vinyl and, who knows what other goddamn format like 8-track some might favour) and Prince certainly does not file under that category. Also most music snobs buy music often according to a record label, not artist.

I have many of those syndromes myself. But I still do like Princeywincey.

my younger brother is a vinyl dealer and he despises prince. when we go to record shows we go our separate ways LOL. He's usually over by the vinyl drooling over some obscure blues single from 1947 while i'm checking out the Dirty Mind tour on DVD.

I am the same way. I love a wide array of music, but I choose people who are artists. As long as they are making music for the sake of creation, which is what art is, and they are good at doing it, then I'm going to give them a listen. No matter what the genre or style.

True...exactly ...being fairly new to the org...I understand music/artist snobbery...everytime I log on ...I wonder which opinion of mine will be "snubbed" by the "old time snobs." I still come in hopes of one day becoming an Prince/Org snob.... lol

Not all Prince fans are music snobs, and not all music snobs are Prince fans. (in fact, some music snobs are incredibly anti-Prince)

But a Prince fan can be a music snob, and vice versa.

If by music snob you mean I'm one of those ppl who's so spoiled by Prince and his great music that I annoyingly and unfairly compares every artist to Prince and his unreachable level....then yes. biggrin
