PRINCE AGING - ANY REGRETS?

.

I know at least half of you are going give me the fam cliche' answers :"It's just a phase of his life" or "he's evolving" or "he's in terrific shape for his age", but the fact of the matter is that Prince has obviously aged a good deal physically in the last 4 years or so. He's definately not old yet--but the day is coming.

Yes, he's still a stunning performer, and yes--he's at the top of his game for his craft. But am I the only one who feels some regrets that the feisty, nasty, fiery young Prince is past us? I do very much respect and appreciate him for what's he's given me over the years, but I very much miss the Prince of old.

Moreover, is his graceful aging in any way shape or form, an indication of laten homosexual tendancies?

I think everyone has their favorite Prince incarnation. It seems nothing will ever live up to that standard. My favorite Prince is Purple Rain Prince and then closely Graffiti Bridge Prince it is easy to miss the old Prince but I just am grateful that he is still here on earth and that I have the opportunity to hear his music.

Yes, we homosexuals all look ten years younger....really!

I love the nasty Dirty Mind Prince. Even though I was already into him before the leg warmers and bikini, I never got to see him perform during that time. Oh well. I think it's going to happen again.....

I've been missing the "old Prince" since 1985 so this is nothing new to me. I accepted him as "extremely good" and no longer "great" a long time ago.

i was actually just thinking about that today after watching under the cherry moon, and then the musicology video. i wasn't around to see him back when he was feisty, nasty, & fiery...sad i guess that makes me not miss it, exactly, but wish i could have seen it more than just through videos.

and besides...will he ever dance like he used to?! i think not. poo.

It´s the hair, folks, just the hair...watch that Aladdin DVD and you´ll see what I mean. That short, straightened hair makes him look old. His hair is still thick and nice, but that split in the middle, like Bart Simpson when he goes to church, makes his hair look thinner. I´ve always liked the more natural hairdos he was sportin in the past or the minifro from musicology.
Give the brother three weeks in the gym and a more natural, curly hairdo and he looks like 27 again. lol
Seriously, he´s aging so gracefully that I don´t even want to call it "aging".
He´s looking scarily good.
I mean, if he decided to look like he did in Purple Rain or Sign of the Times again he could easily do so, just as a joke for a day or something. All it takes is jheri curls and that purple trenchcoat...put on the white cloud, and there you go wink
He does make some weird decisions sometimes, musically and visually , but he´s still great.

I always thought the JW thing was a way of appeasing his guilt over his former lifestyle. (Not that he should have any guilt, but it's just a thought).

I've always thought that too.

Guilt (misplaced as, IMO, it is) *AND* the loss of his child.

If those things were true, he would have been a JW for all of two weeks and then quit. Dude has already said he has no regrets.

Sorry, I don't agree with that.

I realize you're a JW so you're sensitive to anyone commenting on P's JW affiliation/s but I'm of the opinion that certain experiences in a person's life serve as catalysts to propel the person or lead them to something else..and sometimes those things aren't merely transitory or a phase, but instead they take and the person sticks with them.

You certainly don't have to agree with me but I still hold the opinion that Prince felt immense guilt for the way he conducted his life in earlier years and that, with together with the loss of his child, those experiences led him deeper into the JW faith which helps him to come to terms with certain aspects of his past.

Do you always take everything Prince says or has said at face value and literally?

Sometimes Prince isn't completely honest, you know. especially about his private life.

That's interesting, seriously! I wonder occasionally to what made him a JW? Not that this is related, but Jacko actually was one and then not which was odd too!

Aging is a part of life. When I first started to like Prince I looked way younger too. I look at the cat in the mirror today I sometimes say, "man, you looking older daddy pop!" All musicians get older in front of the public eye. I just think it silly to go under the knife for fear people will actually see you aging. It's crazy! Man, I seen Burt Reynolds recently and he looks like someone actually stretched his face and pulled it back just to keep his skin from sagging. I'm like, you would've looked way better by just aging gracefully. Now he looks surreal and odd. What happened to the days where people viewed grey hair as a sign of wisdom and maturity?

That's cool. Your opinion is your opinion. His faith has probably helped him come to terms with many things.

Call me naive', but I do have the tendency to give folks the benefit of the doubt, probably out of respect. We only know about Prince. We don't know him.

Most artist have a commercial and an artistic peak - good thing about Prince is that he has various, if different peaks. So some prefer the Dirty Mind, some the Purple Rain, some the GB Prince, and some even the Musicology Prince.

I personally prefer the Prince of the SOTT/Camille/Lovesexy area - for me this was when he was as his most daring and most creative musically, while still finding great hooks that made the songs accessible without wearing out. Just listening to Hot Thang - this song for example has not aged at all to me...

Prince actually took up studying after years of wonderment about spirituality. Why people ask that question at times gets me because throughout his whole career he has made many spiritual songs. The man was searching for real understanding and I guess in his mind Jehovah's witnesses was the most accurate. MJ, on the other hand, grew up in the faith as a toddler. He never had to really search through life painstakingly to find out many answers in reference to faith and God. My opinion is this, when one isn't truthfully searching for something, then they are not going to find it. When Michael left the religion it is my opinion that since he probably never personally experienced "other" faiths, denominations, doctrine and theology he wanted to test them out for himself. Sadly, we see him in a really bad situation today. Perhaps one day he will return as our brother in the faith again. Because this world is going to literally kill him.
