One thing I like about Prince is..........

The fact he seems not to care which race colour he dates! Some black people have got offended by his lack of black women around him, but I feel Prince just chooses the people he works with (or fucks) because he purely wants to, and has nothing to do what colour they r.....

it seems that black people get/got offended when other black people date light skinned people, Iam glad Prince does not agree with this rather unsettling view!

is Prince black anyway?

He's part American Indian aswell.

It's sad that the colour of ur skin has to dictate they people u love.

P's music has always been universal and his music has never followed the Black music seen.

From what I think, Prince has always been very colorful. He doesn't seem to pay much attention to a person's skin tone. Seems open-minded.

1 thing I like about Prince is his guitar playing. The sonds that he makes come out of that instrument are breathtaking. There isnt a person alive today that can play guitar as excellent as he can! He is one of his kind and will always stay this way! He is just to good 4 his own self

If he would not have been with Mani, Prince should definitely date Andrea Corr for a while ... she is outta this world, a Goddess. And she's already said she used to listen to his music a lot.

Prince likes Spanish Latin women best: Denise Matthews (Vanity/Vagina), Patty Kotero (Apollinia), Sheila E, Ingrid Chavez, Lori Elle (Diamond) and Robia LeMorte (Pearl), Mayte Garcia, Manuela Testolini.

I really wanna get off of this race thing.. I really do...

I think it's hilarious that at this point people are even asking if Prince is black. Oh my god!!! eek Both of his parents are black.

The "blackest" women I've ever heard about him dating were Nina Cymone (sp?) and Cat. But hey, the guy grew up in the whitest city in the US (<1%). That will surely inform your tastes in a lot of things.

But, as I've been told (chastised) before, this type of post is really for the "Prince's women" or whatever it's called discussion group on prince.org.

I think it's totally rediculous for people to care about what color or gender Prince or anyone else dates. If people would get a life of their own, they wouldn't have time to worry about other people's personal lives.

Yeah Prince seems to have a thing for Latinas but it is cool that he likes all types of women. But he seems to go for the darker, exotic types which is werid because Minneapolis mostly has blond, Norwegien-Swedish women.

Awww shit... here we go with the how black is Prince thing again...

Prince is black. Point blank. Period.
No African-American can claim 100% Gambian because there's always some other creed flowing through our bloodstreams down the genetic line somewhere. As a result we are all different pigments and complexions. Please yall, don't start that half-Italian, half-American Indian nonsense. Prince has been known to have been a ho but he ain't no Navajo.

Their skin tones may not be the same but Prince is as black as Wesley Snipes, believe it or not. He hasn't dated many black women in the public eye and he seems to have a preference for Latino or Latino-looking women. End of story and the drama. The world will continue to spin.

I don't know why people get down on Prince for having a preference for women. Alot of people give him shit for not dating enough black women but he is not being racist he just likes what he likes. Maybe latin/exotic women are just his thing just like how lots of guys like the blond/fake boobs/ Pamala Anderson look. By the way he likes black women too just as long as they are hot, like how he likes his white women too, if they are HOT! biggrin

I think who Prince dates is really his business. I don't think it matters if he doesn't like dating black women, and even strongly dislikes dating them.

HOWEVER, I DO think how he used to NOT portray them in his videos was a different matter altogether. I really didn't like his 80's and early 90's videos where all his women where drop dead gorgeous white or latino girls, but not black. Also, I've said this a million times, but this was esculated in "Under The Cherry Moon", where two things happenend:

1) Two black men fought over the rich white woman. Prince even went so far as making fun of Jerome buy basically saying who do you Think she'd prefer "Chocolate or Caramel"--in other words, my light skin or yo black azz.
2) The only black woman given more than 2 seconds of time in the movie is an old ugly black woman wanting sexual favors from him, cuasing him to run screaming in fear---not good, not good.

I think he's really really grown alot since then understanding that no matter what his intentions, the mass media is a powerful tool for setting messages--suttle or blatant.

But again, in his private life--so what if he preffers this race or that race?

I've dated a few white girls that only liked brown skinned latino types (which for some reason my asian ass somehow fits the bill).

1. The Tricky and Christopher scene was about whether police would believe they were brothers not whether Mary would be in love with Tricky's black ass.

2. The whole "black woman in Under the Cherry Moon" scenario is one of those stories that was (mis)interpreted by some journalist years ago and now folks wanna accept it as the gospel truth. I would accept that theory if this motion picture was depicted this way: Prince gallivanted around with all of these rich white women, he stumbles into an alley with a poor black woman who asks him for a dollar and he screams "I don't like poor bitches!!!" and runs off in that melodramatic way he did in the original scene, then you'd have a more rational reason to be offended. But the fact that you described the black woman in the scene as "old and ugly" when she was just as rich and probably just as old as Mrs Wellington is more telling about you than Prince's supposed complex with black women-- not good, not good.

She was old. And she was ugly.
And Prince noted that by running and screaming.

It's not about whether Prince was racist or not--he obviously wasn't. It's about how suttle messages, deliberate or not affect the audience.

U obviously are not nearly as educated ad I am, nor do you possess a literary mind. Dare I say it, you seem somewhat stupid.

1. Literary minds probably wouldn't use "Under the Cherry Moon" as a reference point to discuss Prince's "complex with black women".

2. Literary minds usually have better things to do than create redundant ass threads/posts relating every thing Prince does to vaginas.

3. Literary minds usually don't use Princebonics to explain their viewpoints.

4. The word subtle is not spelled "suttle" The 'b' is silent!

If I'm stupid, then my ignorance is truly bliss. So please, oh wise one...rock on with your educated ass... rolleyes

My point is this: How can you reference that scene as offensive when you obviously feel that the character of 'Christopher Tracy', not Prince, was justified in running away because the black woman was so "old and ugly" in your opinion. If you can explain that, I'll stand corrected. Otherwise, I'll call it like I see it... as some over anaylzed shit you read in a book. Please keep fiction separate from reality.

WTF? I'm not entirely sure what this was supposed to mean, but I don't like the sound of it. neutral

You contradict yourself by saying it anyway. If all or at least most black people can't be 100% sure of their lineage then he very well could have some Native in him somewhere along the line.

The "chocolate or caramel" line was in reference to the (hypothetical) police not believing Christopher and Tricky could be brothers.

I don't know or care what race Prince is, nor do I care who he dates, has sex with, or marries. None of this has any bearing on how I listen to his music or what I get out of it.

His preference in women more likely than not is just that, preference.
