what do you think of prince's acoustic guitar playing?

i think prince streched pretty much in 2004 with his acoustic guitar.
he definetly plays better then he did on 2002 celebration.
what do you think and what acoustic guitar he plays?

I don't know if it's better or not, but I like it.
Like any other instrument he plays on, he really knows how to make it sound so easy, yet do very complex moves.
In short - he makes it look natural.

i like listening to him play acoustic guitar a whole lot more than i like listening to him play piano...and i think he's wonderful on the keys. it just seems like he can do a lot more on the acoustic, not to mention it looks damn cool. thumbs up!

Everyone knows he can play. There's no reason to strip the music down just to prove it. Accoustical music is just plain boring.

during a concert where every single damn classic song needs to have horn arrangements tacked on to every last damn note, i thought it was a very welcome and refreshing touch to have a portion of the show where it was just the man and his acoustic guitar. i'd GLADLY watch him do a full length show like this.

In your opinion it is boring. Ignorance is bliss? Some of the highlights of Prince's shows have been him sittin' on the swirly chair with just his acoustic guitar. "Sometimes in snow in April" anyone?

There are great examples of his acoustic playing on early cuts like "Miss U", "Donna", "Do U Wanna Ride?" and "Rock Me Lover". P was rockin' the acoustic early on.

He definately proved to me this year just how much a great guitarist he is. I think the acoustic set on the tour was amazing - much more polished than The Truth album, the 2002 Celebration and other one-off acoustic guitar sets on the One Nite Alone tour.

When all the world goes electronic.
When in most shows you don't even see the musicians anymore, this man goes to the stage and shows them real talent. That's why I call him Prince thumbs up!

To each their own, but I did look forward to the acoustic set so I could take a restroom break. If he had drug out "Sometimes It Snows In April", I would have gone outside and taken a cigarette break. lol

Some people just don't have an appreciation for the acoustic sound. Seeing P play Little Red Corvette" acoustically gave me a whole new love for the song.
Personally, there's nothing like sitting down and playing acoustically with congas (replacing drums) and bass.

If U don't like his acoustic recorded songs, your opinion will change if U ever see him do it live.

especially when the conga-playing is prince flipping his guitar over and slapping the heck out of it! biggrin

I was really impressed iwth his acoustic set on Musicology tour. I thought he was doing thing with that guitar that I've never heard.

But then someone on one of the forums suggested that there was someone in the wings playing with him. Anyone know if this is true?

Err, not exactly. Mike Scott sometimes played the chord changes during the blues numbers so Prince could take a solo. He had a spotlight on him too, so it's not as if he was hiding or anything. Other than that, it was all Prince.

Bravo to Prince for playing these acoustic sets, even though he sort of half-heartedly stumbles through them. I would love our boy to put out an acoustic studio disc of the reworked songs. He actually gives the old tunes another life, without the disemboweled tastelessness that Sting and Clapton have released upon the public late in their hit-making careers.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's not really surprising. I love music, which is something that most of the current artists do not make any more. Their music sounds stripped down to just a midtempo drum machine and maybe a sample. If I don't like their music for being stripped down, then why would I like for Prince to strip his music down even more to just an even slower guitar? What's next, acapella? biggrin

Prince is really great. His acoustic playing is excelent, he has showed that he doesnt need to be hidden behind a full band or electric instruments.

And in my opinion, he has been foucusing on guitar more and more during these last years, and now he is even a more acomplished guitarist, as he has showed during the tour.
