For an alternate point of view, from someone who isn't pathologically hooked on "Prince - The Early Years", if you're looking for the most musical variety for your 3 or 4 CD quota, get these:
Purple Rain SOTT Lovesexy Symbol *****************************************

I would put Emancipation on the bottom of your list. I never listen to that cd...wasn't impressed. Dirty Mind is what hooked me back when I was young (13 or 14) and impressionable. SOTT, Lovesexy, Symbol, The Hits (with B sides) All of those would be my recommendations.

It wouldn't matter to Prince. Jehovah Witness's don't believe in Christmas. If ypu aint hip to the rare housequake, shut up already,damn.................

I suppose it depends on what era you prefer, but for a good overall selection
I'd say... Purple Rain (Prince in the mid 80's at his most commercially successful. Full of hits) Sign O' The Times (A mixed assortment of left-field pop, a real 'grower'. 80's fan favorite) The Gold Experience (might be difficult to get hold of now, but well worth it. His best 90's album) Dirty Mind (very short by today's standards, but a real turning point album. Very demoey)
