Grammies and the RnB Factor Since Prince was nominated in only the RnB slots for this year's Grammies does any one else think this is the end for him as a Pop artist?. I listen to Musicology and I think of it as a pop cd not an RnB cd. | |

I don't think you can put Prince in just one genre.
R/B/soul/funk/jazz/pop/rock, he's been there all. | |

R/B/soul/funk/jazz/pop/rock, he's been there all. ----- Well that is exactly what I think but, he only got nominated in the RnB catergoies and he is only getting radio play on RnB stations. Which I think is riduculous. | |

I think awards are a joke. But honestly when you get your biggest press in years (The Grammys) of people all year saying "Wow! Did you see Prince & Beyonce on THE GRAMMYS!!!"
Before this year when was the last time you can remember people, not fans on message boards. But on tv saying a performance on "The Grammys". I think that is the reason they gave him 5 chances of winning this year. They will give most to Usher & I'd think atleast one to Prince. I really think it is a huge joke these award shows. They should have gave him one for NEWS & Sign O Times. How in the world didn't he win for those to albums. I also think they are banking that Prince will perform again this year. Probably whispering in this ear saying "hey you better show up, because you might be on stage and getting some awards" | |

----- Did his pop days end because he can't write pop music or because he can't get any airplay on pop stations. [Edited 12/13/04 10:31am] | |

[Edited 12/13/04 10:31am] This is going to sound like a cop-out, but I think it's BOTH! In my opinion, Prince's writing skills have declined over the years. I think he writes good folk songs (e.g., "The Truth" album). He writes the best when telling stories or making pithy statements ("Dorothy Parker"), or just trying to be funny. But I don't think he writes the best pop songs these days. Prince is anti-Establishment and that has cost him a great deal as far as radio play goes, and that includes both pop and r&b radio stations. Contemporary adult r&b stations seem to be the only ones where you can hear his music. | |
