He doesn't have that same hunger he had in his youth. He still has his moments though, as seen with The Rainbow Children.

I wrote a thread about this ages ago, and people just didn't agree with me, that prince isn't hurgry 4 being at the top again, i dnt no way this is, but i fink its a big mistake because, the low market music he is making, is leading sum of his fan's away!

Of course hes not hungry anymore Most artists aren't after their big first album.

We can all just appreciate the music he has made (and continues to make!)

and be happy to be fans of a artist so dedicated to his talent that he has

continued to grow and evolve even after he made more than enough money to

live off of. Its fun being a Prince fan because he is always changing and

even if you don't like all the changes he makes. Its still better than him just

retiring or living off the hits as many older celebrities do. wink
If you will, so will I

Unles the artist is very insecure or plain in love with themselves.

Why does he need to be hungry exactly? What hasn't he done that he still needs to do? At this point, he could retire and be completely satisfied with the legacy he has left behind. Hell, the stuff he was doing in the early 80s still sounds four times better than what's on the radio today.

The man has nothing else to prove; not to you and not to himself. Or maybe he does have something the prove to himself. He doesn't have anything to prove to me, though.

Fame? MEGA fame? Been there, done that.

Good question. I don't think he has anything to prove. He's making the kind of music HE wants to make for the hell of it. The 80s are over -there'll never be another Purple Rain, SOTT, etc. I will admit, the music isn't the same as it was before - and I'm not expecting it to be. I'd be bored if Prince wasted his career trying to remake his 80s sound. Besides, there are a few artists trying to do that for him anyway.

Z:

Come on, now, girl. If anyone, you oughtta know better. Prince got into the business for a different reason than the other two: he truly loves making music and that is more important to him than recognition and fame. Madonna and MJ? Please, Z! Don't make me laugh! They do EVERYTHING to bring attention to themselves. MJ has been trying to top "Thriller" for years now and fails every time. Madonna is always trying to redefine herself. She is such an opportunist and I've never been a fan of hers. She has no talent and is only in the business to raise eyebrows. You can't really compare these three. Prince is in it strictly for the love of music. Nothing on "Musicology" is really radio friendly; he could've made another pop-like album and commercial songs, but I don't think so. I don't think that's his goal and it shouldn't be. The artists that truly stand the test of time are those who are able to remain above the fray of the business. The Beyonce's and the Usher's of the world will not be around for years to come. We need to separate the true "artists" from the "performers." You can't really compare a Prince with a Madonna or an MJ. It just doesn't work.

Speaking of hunger, I remembered this quote from Q Magazine:

Prince said:

(He speaks about purity in music.) "Rock N' Roll, man was so much better when people were hungry. It was better when you
didn't automatically make money. When James (Brown) was putting out an album
every four months, that was the stuff."

take it how you'd like, Its his quote wink

Prince is about the music. Madonna and Jacko are about the fame. Prince is a real musician. Lets see Madonna and Jacko try to play guitar.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

"Purple Rain" not only cured his hunger but it made him full.

Ugh.

True as that statement is, I'll sure be glad when the next "overusedPrincecatchphrase" is unveiled so that people will have a new mantra to run into the ground. confused

I just wish the SPARK that was once present in Prince's music would come back again.

I don't want a repeat of the 80s sound - but a similar energy and that intangible SOMETHING that made that music so memorable and incredible would certainly be nice to hear again. I don't think Prince has that in him right now, though.

Musicology was an OK album. I liked it. But certain past albums were like an incredible meal consisting of unexpected amazing textures and flavors, and that left you feeling satisfied but wanting more; in comparison, Musicology is like a bowl of oatmeal. Nice. Comfortable. Utilitarian.

I'm sorry but I do'nt think Prince has the 'hunger' anymore the way he once did. But who would, considering his career and what's transpired in it?

At the moment, Prince is at a comfortable place in his life. I dont' think he feels the need to reach for anything else right now and, to me, his current musical outpit reflects that. (except for Glass Cutter which I thought was AWESOME.)
