I myself would rather "The Rainbow Children," but it really depends on the type of Prince U like. If U like the experimental Prince or U wanna check the experimental side out, get TRC, if U're not really into experimental music, get Rave. That's just my opinion. And I think I'm first.

i can't believe i'm saying this, but get "the rainbow children". neither are favorites of mine, but at least TRC has some really interesting moments on it.

Commercial Prince, Personal prince..
I liked Rainbow Children because it was so twisted and elegant and ran together as an album whole. Rave is nice too, but it suffers sometimes from trying to appeal too commercial, Rainbow only suffers from the "snagglevoice" (WHICH I DIDNT MIND AT ALL) and the religious refrences all over the place. hey 2 different albums... Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Rave has a lot of great moments. But Rainbow Children is utter greatness throughout.

TRC all the way.
If you have NPS or Emancipation, you know what's coming on Rave. Rave = Commercial pop/r&b album, TRC = Grower, jazzy/funk with a warm live instruments sound.

TRC ! | |

Rave is Prince at his dullest. RC has some great music, though the lyrics are a little creepy IMO.

Wrong, that cd is now cracked from the impact They should catch the second one and buy that (provided the second one is The Rainbow Children) Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there

"The Rainbow Children" is not one of my favorites, by no means, but I rate it much higher than "Rave". Andy is a four letter word.

Man, oh man... where's the love? I've defenitely listened to Rave a lot more than TRC. Important Instructions: Skip over track 9, and whatever you do... this is extremely important... whatever you do, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT bother with Rave In2. Stick with the original, and you'll be just fine. Lovesexy Funkateer

Rave IN2 rocks! it's what should have been released in the first place!

I like to pretend Rainbow Children never happen...it really almost made me drop Prince altogether with its closeminded, racist, mysogynistic messages....Rave at least as some good intentions and a few decent songs....TRC is coaster material...

The Rainbow Children sure has some weird lyrics but musically it's BRILLIANT!! I would have to combine Rave Un2 and In2 to get the album I truly love however.

BUY RAVE NOW!!
its so underrated here on the org, especially by these rainbow worshipers but it really is a great album! I wouldnt lie The Rainbow Children is okay but it REALLY had to grow on me! The deep voice narrator is SSOO creepy and distracting but between it I'll admit there is some good music, especially Everlasting Now But listening to TRC is too much work. I have to skip some tracks, fastforward though the first couple minutes of others and try not to hear the misusage of the word "duck". I mean come on Prince, its not the word its the intentions!! If you say one thing but mean something else its just as bad So buy Rave, listen without any prejudice, and enjoy Then buy TRC, get past all the crap, and enjoy those hidden treasures If you will, so will I

If you want a passionate, focused album you want TRC-- It's not an easy listen mind you. If you want a somewhat enjoyable pop album go with Rave.

TRC Racist????? You must be out of your mind. Please Buy TRC instead of Rave. Its funky and thought provoking. Rave has a few good tune but all andall is a good paper weight. "Thinking like the Keys on Prince's piano, we'll be just fine"

I keep hearing people say that TRC is too much work to listen to, that it's not an easy listen. Then, when P gives folks an easy-to-swallow children's vitamin album, they complain about that. My advice would be to open your own mind and get both. Do it chronologically, just for fun. Pick up 'Rave', and if you're short on cash, just wait a few weeks to get 'TRC'. In the end, you'll have two Prince cds with figurative "gems" here and there. Then decide for yourself what you like. Don't let anybody here tell you.

The Rainbow Children is an excellent cd as far as musicianship goes. He is at his best musically, but I do not care for the religious garbage. I still enjoy listening to this cd as I find it spiritual in many ways and I just can't deny his amazing music ability and his stunning voice throughout.

the stand-out tracks for me are the title song, 1+1+1=3, muse 2 the pharoah, family name, mellow and...ugh...the one that sounds especially gospel-y and not especially very prince-y...i forget what it's called - everywhere? - that one threw me for a loop, and in a very pleasant way. i love the live version of everlasting now on ONA live...the studio version is pleasant enough, but lacks the kick of the live performance. musically, i think it's a really strong album and i can even overlook the so-called "anti-semitism" and "anti-female" sentiments people seem to think are in the lyrics...i can see the arguments, but they're arguable at best...it's just that damn narration that i can't get past. if he released a version of TRC without that narration, i'd probably listen to it ten times more than i do now. hell, i'd probably listen to it, period!
