This was recorded in 1994 in East Asia (hence the name). It is Prince doing a one man jam for the prime minister of Japan. There is no singing as the Prime minister hated Princes voice so he just jammed on his own without a Mike...

94 East has never been released before and although it dates back many years is currently enjoying great success with these unheard jams...

Oh, I know... But this gets asked at least once a month... I think the more colourful and imaginative the answers can be, we may be able to keep this ongoing question fresh and new... Ok, maybe not...

In fact, anything that comes with the name "Minneapolis Genius 94East" was Prince first official band after "Champagne". The tracks were recorded in 1977 but prince didn't have a record deal a this time. He later remastered the tunes and released them in mid' 80s.Pepe willie, one of the cats, claimed later that he wrote all the songs and was the main player in the band. (come onnnnn!!!!!)

Thanks.. In my coverbook it is written that they were recording it around 1975, when Prince was only 16. What is Princes connection to Pepe Willie/94 east now? Are they in any contact?

I don't know for sure, but I might have red somewhere, that it was a Family affair, Pepe (cousin) took young Prince as his protégé but Prince was already a entire band on his own, went warner came along they never got in touch again.

Pepe Willie married a cousin of Prince's.

Prince is reported to have contacted Pepe Willie in more recent times.

Pepe Willie likes to describe their former relationship as 'family' and is not averse to promoting his own view about the contribution he has made to Prince's musical career:
