Are you guys still listening to Musicology?

I just broke mine out again after not listening to it for a couple of months but it was on my heavy rotation when it for came out for a long time. So what do you think of it now? I still love it! Anyone know what's in store for Prince next? Any albums coming out next year?

Sure. Every now and then I get a hankerin' for "What Do You Want Me To Do?" or "Reflection". "Reflection" is so nice when you're on the highway. music

yeah, believe it or not. i'll bust it out at work every now and again. it's not his best, but i think it's his first really listenable pop album in quite a long time.

Those bored with the studio CD could do a lot worse than listening to the following cracking boots:

Freeology 2CD set
Club Black 2CD set
Shark Tank 2CD (first night)

All highly recommended wink

There's about an inch of dust on my Musicology CD.

By the way, household dust is made up of 83% human skin.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

same here. that's the one major difference between Prince in the past
and Prince in the present.

Up to 1988 the albums were more magical and somehow lasted an entire
year before you were finally looking out for something new.

these days his albums (except TRC and ONA piano) bore me after just a
few weeks. they're just too easy I guess. something like that.

I usually don't break an album like Musicology out anymore at all, not
until a releasedate or a first track surfaces for a new album and I
need something to bridge the anticipation

smile

I wish his albums would keep me satisfied like they used to. Heck, I
can still crank up Dirty Mind and throw a fit in my room after having
known it for 16 years now.

But, ehm, Rave? What? Oh yes, that's right, that was an album too giggle

You ever think that P's recent stuff doesn't keep you satisified because you're able to log onto the internet and constantly dissect and discuss with others until it gets old, plus listen to other's criticisms ad nauseum? You weren't able to do that back in '81, so you had to really listen and learn to appreciate whatever you received. Just a thought.

hmmm

No, still think his recent work is just not as brilliant as the old.

don't get me wrong, the ONA tour contained some of my fav all time

performances and deep jams. I absolutely ADORE the C-NOTE EP and the

One Nite Alone piano album and TRC is just my little pet baby and

The Truth is well, simply amazing.

In fact, what was I complaining about again?

Yes, I'm still listening to Musicology. Great album.
Played it to death early on and then some. Put it down for a bit. But I recently picked it back up. Cinnamon Girl calls me these days. Million Days is somehow doing the trick, too. And I can't get tired of What Do You Want Me To Do? either.
I guess it's just a hopeless situation. The album's just plain good and will keep me coming back for a while more, I guess. sad wink

I haven't listened to it in full, but I put on a fave song or to when the mood hits. I still have one unopened copy from the last concert I was at, so there's no need for me to buy retail.

Listening to it right now.

Really love : a million days. I am sucker for the guitar driven stuff ( dolphin)

call my name & cinnamon girl are quality.marrying kind and what do you want me to do are ok.

Dr. Mr Man came off better live with the envelope filter on Rhonda's bass.

some of the other stuff sounds like he is following rather than leading.

Haven't listened to it for ages. Not sure why - it's not a bad album, just there's nothing on there that grabs me, personally, on an emotional level. Apart from the title track which I now love, there's nothing musically, no sound or great guitar part, that I really look forward to hearing.

Like most people, I loved Illusion/coma/pimp/circumstance when I first heard it, but now I am sooo tired of hearing this ugly story, I just don't care about rich woman and their gigalos!

What I'd like now from Prince is some real passion and energy in an album, not restrained musicality, not vague jazz noodlings, I want to hear him scream and thrash his guitar like he means it!

Pleasant album, but haven't played in months.

I suspect I'll return to it in future tho, and discover some of its depths. I'm currently re-discovering 'Lovesexy', which I always felt was over-rated round here. Was I wrong! One of his best!

'Musicology' sort of reminds me of 'Emancipation' disc 2 and 'The Vault' albums combined. If it had more of the depth of 'The Vault's best tracks, it would be a lot better.

not that the newer stuff is bad, it just took me a while to get into musicology and then i was stuck on it for like 2 weeks. still... i prefer the older stuff.
