Prince released more music than any major artist in the last four years, to the point that quality has suffered. If it's quantity you want, he can do that -- but shouldn't.

There is a reason why record labels want to restrict their artists to a limited amount of output. Saturating the market, not releasing the cream of the crop but the WHOLE crop... etc etc.

WB would have insisted that emancipation was whittled down some. It would probably have done better that way from both a business sense and in a sense of keeping output at the highest quality.

Freedom to release what he wants may have eased his pain, but it hasnt led to more great music really...

I dont mind either way. The good stuff will always be mixed in there, even if there is more filler than there should be...

Look... talk about spoiled fans. Go back to an album like 1999. How many tracks were on this "double album"? Better yet, take the total running time of Controversy. Compare that to say, Gold or even Rave Un2. Now calculate how many B-sides would there be if you "whittled them down." Those equate directly to "Moonbeam Levels", "So High", "The Grand Progression" or whatever your favorite 'outtakes' were. Those were demos, y'all.

For every "Wonderful Ass" (which I rank way up there) there was a "200 Balloons" (which to me was 4th grade b-day party music razz). Point being, damn near everyone fan enough to be a member here absolutely CRAVED B-sides and outtakes. Now it's gotten to the point where some expect the outtakes and B-sides to rival the cream--or "Cream" itself ??!?

Add up the songs he gave The Time, Vanity/Appollonia6, the Bangles, etc etc and we're STILL coming out way on the plus side now as opposed to then. So "Joint2Joint" didn't get enough play to make us appreciate it for the club gem it is... so "Mellow" isn't revered like "Adore"... I don't think that makes them lesser tracks by any means.

The quality hasn't diminished.. the methods motivation and intent changed? sure. he's an artist, of course he's grown/changed.
Get a grip
