What if Prince toured with Sign of the Times instead of Lovesexy?? Do you think it would made any diffiernce in the commerical success of SOTT?? I saw the Loevesexy tour and it wasn't all that bad, but I think the SOTT tour would faired much better. He had the momentum in the fall of 1987 with the U got look and I could never..singles on the pop charts and Adore and Hot Thing on thr r&b charts.
I will just chalk it up to one of many Prince blunders....

[Edited 11/28/04 13:13pm] so was I! 6th row, centerstage! my first show! I got in the stadium, started walking to my seat and the stage just kept getting bigger and closer!

That's cool ! It was my first concert too
When i was there it started to rain and he wanted to stop because he thought his equipment could get wet or something Then the whole crowd started shouting ; "Hij is een hondelul, hij is een hondelul" Meaning something like "He's a prick" (well, literally dog's prick) [Edited 11/28/04 13:37pm]

I will just chalk it up to one of many Prince blunders.... As an Amreican I'll answer your question...YES SOTT was/is a better album. R&B radio were playing cuts like adore, hot thang, and you got the look etc...I remember reading somewhere Dr. Fink beg Prince to play the states but he refused. Like you said one of his many blunders.

SOTT was released all across the US in major theaters. It was just like a tour, but without the roadies and sweat stains. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

SOTT was almost 2 overreaching in its attempt 2 cover so many styles of music but the man pulled it off. It is widley considered 2 be his best album by the critics so if u dont like it then fuck off and stop making an arse of yourself by making ridiculous statements about one of the greatest albums of the late 20th century. and as 4 u'r president im glad u didn't vote 4 the fuckin war monger but can u have a word with some of your compatriots and tell them this man is providing the world with more terrorists than bin laden or saddam could have wished 4. At the time, specficaly the fall of 1987, his music was doing alright here, to keep it going he should of brought that tour to the US. But he gave us an album which IMO is alright, but lacked any commercial appeal, and his album and tour suffered from it. It does matter where you live, but according to most post here the SOTT album is his best, and some of us feel cheated that we didn't get to witness it, that's all. Don't go reading into any further than that.

The Lovesexy shows included the SOTT show, except for a couple of songs (SOTT, PITS, G&B, Hot Thing, ICNTTPOYM, IIWYG, FIML and IGBABN). All other songs that made up a SOTT show were also in the Lovesexy show - in exactly the same arrangements and with the same choreography and light effects.
In 1987/1988 it didn't matter what show Prince would have taken to the US: it would have failed anyway... rap/hip-hop and house emerging on the dance spectrum and garage rock emerging on the pop spectrum: he didn't fit in either and he did not make a crossover as he did in the early eighties with rock, new wave and disco. With his love, peace and God message of Lovesexy... he had no chance in the musical violence that ruled the late eighties. But I wouldn't call it a blunder. He just followed his heart and gut-feelings, or better said: Prince did what Prince always sings about... what's wrong with that?

I always thought that Prince made a huge mistake by not bringing his 'SOTT' to the US.There was ALOT of momentum with that album, and alot of critics and fans were saying it was his best album yet.In addition,in the fall of 1987,singles like "U Got The Look" and "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" were climbing the Top 10 charts, while non-singles like "Hot Thing" and "Adore" were receiving tremendous airplay on R&B radio stations. If there was ever a right time to do a lengthy tour, this was it.

okay..in what regards was it the best thing??? That was the 1st tour of his I ever saw and I have seen him 9 times after that, and some of those shows put the Lovesexy show to shame. If I wanted a sermon I would have went to church, hey look I happy he found God again that's great. Just play the music we all love. I would of love to seen the Gold Experience tour, the songs, the vibe of that era, and the F.U. to Warners Bros. I respect your opinion of Lovesexy.
