Prince sets new record on R&B charts

Charts / Awards (2004-11-30)
'Call My Name' sets a new record for Prince

LOS ANGELES (www.npgmc.com) - This week's Billboard R&B Singles chart sets a record for the platinum-plus MUSICOLOGY album single "Call My Name," as it rebounds to No 44 in its 27th week on the chart. Believe it or not, this is the longest any Prince single has ever spent on the R&B chart.
His previous records for longevity were "I Want 2 B Your Lover" and "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World," both of which spent 23 weeks on the chart.
While he's enjoying this chart success, Prince has made available new and unreleased songs on his online NPG Music Club site, www.npgmc.com.
"San Jose Jam" was recorded live at sound check in San Jose during the sold-out MUSICOLOGY tour; and the new song, "Glass Cutter" (demo), recorded at Paisley Park earlier this year, features Prince on all instruments and vocals.
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

Yeah, it's in week 28 now, at no.48. The new chart comes out tomorrow, but I think it may drop off this go-'round (songs older than 20 weeks are removed once they fall below no.50).

This is bizarre, in the UK, U R more likely to hear "Cinnamon Girl" more than "Call My Name" and every1 happens 2 know "Musicology".

Has ANY of these tracks been given a UK singles/downloads release?

I told you cats a long time ago that this single would do well on the R&B charts. Here in NY you hear it several times a day on the R&B stations. I think "On the Couch" will be the next R&B hit from the cd.

Wow! Very cool. This just proves that his R&B oriented songs are more likely to get unconditional love by R&B radio stations. I am certain that his other strictly R&B songs, such as Dear Mr. Man, On the Couch, and Reflections, would also kick ass on the charts (as well as "If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life").

if the previous record was 23 weeks on the charts for 'i wanna be your lover' and TMBGITW, how come in week 27 there's a story saying 'this week sets a new record'?

surely the new record was set in week 24!

it's simple MATHEMATICS, people.

lol, yeah thats what i thought, i think basically noone realised until week 27. either way, its funny the NPGMC didn't have a clue at all until someone posted it on here a week ago. now they use it as a press release type thing, which is pretty cool i guess, for the person who found it out! its on week 28 now, hopefully 29 when new figures come out for this week.

wow, maybe someone was sitting there thinking "that can't be right..?" as they scratched their head wondering why Adore didn't chart for a zillion weeks.. or maybe it's just me.
fro

ps-actually maybe that was part of WB's beef, lol. right around half a year later P would be ready to release the next album as opposed to shopping the current singles razz

I love it when he gets these awards. He deserves it. CALL MY NAME is worthy of it. People are recognizing his talent in the R & B genre. How cool is that prince? cool
