For GM fans Cyberstalker Targeting George Michael?
November 29, 2004 George Michael's recent hit, "Amazing," put the entertainer back in the spotlight. Now he's making headlines again, but this time, it's not for his singing. According to London's Daily Mirror, Michael has been bombarded with scary E-mail messages from an obsessed female fan, and a police source said, "Everyone is worried this could be another John Lennon case." So just how did the woman get Michael's private E-mail address? The paper says she cheated security and broke into his mansion and once inside, apparently got onto his computer. The fan was questioned, but George decided not to press charges. Then much to his dismay, he discovered the woman had his E-mail address, which had only been known to a handful of people. Now a friend says that George is really worried what she might do next. E-mail harassment seems to be more common these days. Even NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw has been a victim. In August, prosecutors in New York filed charges against a Staten Island man for sending more than a dozen threatening letters to the soon-to-be retiring anchor. As for George Michael, it must all seem like a broken record. It's at least the third ugly incident he's had with an overzealous fan, including one, described as a female stalker, who apparently figured out a way to get into Michael's London home's crawl space and then camped out underneath his living room floor. In a recent issue with the British GQ Magazine, Michael said, "I was talking to one of my friends one night, and I thought I could hear my name being called out." Later, when the cops came, Michael says they really couldn't do anything because when it happened there were no anti-stalking laws on the books. The woman was eventually taken into custody when she showed up again at Michael's house a few months later. When cops found her, she was performing a certain sexual act in his garden.
