bought parade yesterday...... with all the raving about it on the org thought it would be great.its pretty good.kiss is great and obviously i already new the track.sometimes it snows is absolutely beatiful, but i already knew it as well. out of the rest of the album i liked mountains and under the cherry moon. but alot of the tracks seem stupid, but maybe it s one of his albums that grow on you. like "sott"(which i was dissapointed with at first.)
anyways i have a quarter, so i guess ill call someone who cares.

It MAY grow on you, it actually grew on me too. It didn't take me long to realize it's one of his greatest albums though, for real.

What about Girls and Boys and Anotherloverholenyohead? You gotta love those songs.

Yeah, the tracks grow on you.
It's by far my favorite album. Prince songs have the power to grow on you. If you don't beleive me, just play Jughead 20 times in a row. YOu'll end up loving it.

Since you were disappointed with SOTT at first, it's only fair to assume you have not listened to Parade enough yet and you will realize its greatness as months or years go by. There is nothing unusual about this. Believe me, most fans were disappointed with Parade when it was originally released. Even Prince basically said he didn't have enough solid material when he put it together. But after all these years, the album has grown in stature. Here's my theory. People are often initially disappointed with Parade for the same reason they later grow fond of it : because it's Prince most "whimsical" album. Sure, ATWIAD was sort of whimsical, but most of it was fairly disciplined compared to the stuff on Parade, which is more experimental and, yes, indulgent. But good indulgence, the kind that doesn't sound silly after a couple of years, just whimsical.

Don't worry, it'll grow on you. I don't think I know anybody who doesn't like Parade....eventually. [Edited 11/27/04 18:13pm] "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I was disappointed when it came out and it hasn't grown on me since. There are a couple of nice tunes on it like Anotherlover... and Girls and Boys. Sorry, not a big KISS fan. But this album is just too breezy for my taste. Like ATWIAD and LOVESEXY, I respect Prince for being bold enough to put out an album like Parade. This one, however, bored me. Too much like elevator music.

anyways i have a quarter, so i guess ill call someone who cares. Although I like Parade quite a bit, I think I know what you may be feeling here. It is both an album and a movie soundtrack; some of the songs are thematic segues or ideas that seem too short and less than fully "developed" (especially for someone who tend to compose his songs on the longer side). I really could do without "Do U Lie", and the opening cut and "I Wonder U" don't do much for me either. Maybe if I saw the movie it would make more of an impact, but I'm not rushing to do that either.... *****************************************

But after listening to it like 5 more times, it grew on me. And i feel safe to say i listen to this more than Purple Rain.

i think it's B O R I N G. the only songs i like off of it were Kiss and Anotherloverholeinyohead. Those two songs "vibed" together. I think the whole album should've had THAT kind of sound. I like Girls and Boys too, but the rest of the album i was thinking " whatthefuckisthisshit?" GlamSlamKid...The resident clown on Prince.orgy

Let the beatings begin. You won't get a beating from me....finally, someone that agrees with me! It's definately his dullest album of the 1980s. [Edited 11/28/04 8:44am] Andy is a four letter word.

one of his best by far. I grew up with this album. Its a song cycle not an album of songs. It needs to be taken as a whole (kinda like Lovesexy) not song-by-song.

Prince fooled a lot of people into buying that album by releasing "Kiss" before it came out and making them think they were going to get an album full of jams.. This album drove away herds of Prince fans. Andy is a four letter word.

Besides my other comment, I'm suprised some don't even like 'Wonder U', that's like the funkiest track and how about 'Sometimes it snows in April' and "Mountains'...I think those who don't like, need to give it a couple of more listens.....!!!! [Edited 11/28/04 12:18pm]

I didn't appreciate Parade when it first came out, but now I do. Every song ties beautifully together IMO, particulary the first three.

This is sooooo weird. I've doubled and triple checked my calendar... and sure enough it says 2004. How do you buy this classic, great album in 2004 as opposed to 1986? If you weren't born then, it should've been issued to you by your parents. Lovesexy Funkateer
