Whoo-hooo! Got "Mountains" on repeat! My poor neighbors. I'm in one of those moods where I just grab the nearest guitar and try to solo throughout "Mountains" -- a song that I'm prone to just spin endlessly as it is.
So, I'm just spinning "Mountains" over and over again. Sometimes, I play along. Sometimes, I don't. I got "Mountains" on repeat! Whoo-hooo!!!

I swear: The best part of the UTCM DVD is the video feature. Put those jokers on repeat, and you've got yourself a great, great time. Pity "America" wasn't included, as that was part of the UTCM era.
I'm still listening to "Mountains," guitar in hand. At some point, it threatens to turn into a pathological deal...

Yeah, Mountains is a jam - especially the long version. I haven't heard it in years, but as soon as I get my record player (yes, my 12" of Mountains is OLD), that's the first song I'm going to burn. The 12" of AnotherLover will be next. If you don't have the long version of Mountains - find it! The horn section is really good.

"Mountains" was omitted from "The Hits The B sides" because of Wendy and Lisa's writing contribution to the song, they wrote the music and Prince wrote the lyrics. If you notice, there are no songs included on the hits package that include writing credits by other band members! On a side note, there was some anger towards Prince and WB for the inclusion of "Power Fantastic",which was co-authored,allegedly,by wendy and lisa.

But it was included on the 12" of Peach Yes,i am sure by the time that the hits package started taking off and WB started releasing promo-singles,they settled something(namely $)with wendy and lisa.hence the placement as a b-side.i am sure that WB would have wanted "mountains" on the hits set but did not have clearance at that point from the co-authors.

Has anyone seen the outtakes for the Mountain videos. They're kind of boring but cool.

IMHO Prince's best extended version. Is it true that Wendy and Lisa wrote ALL the music and P only wrote the lyrics? I know he had his input in there somewhere.

Is Mountains about boobies? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's about vaginas. I'd go into more specifics but it takes a while to explain and I'm getting tired tonight.

it was a hit..it hit #23 on the billboard singles chart in 1986 Yep, "Mountains" was a hit even though it didn't score as high as most Prince songs at the time. Here are songs that were included on The Hits package and weren't hits or b-sides: "I Feel For You" (tho it was a huge hit for Chaka Khan in '84/'85) "When You Were Mine" (was never released as a single) "Nothing Compares 2 U" (not previously released by Prince, tho a hit for Sinead) "Adore" (was never released as a single, tho a "hit" of sorts i suppose) "Pink Cashmere" (never previously released) "Head" (never released as a single) "Peach" (never previously released) "Pope" (never released as a single) "4 The Tears In Your Eyes" (not a hit nor a b-side) "Power Fantastic" (not a hit nor a b-side)
