Prince has the right to charge as much as he wants and make as much money as possible. Lawyers are expensive. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Prince was/is an asshole. A lot of us have known this for years, but we still love and appreciate his music. Through mail-order fiascos, announced projects that never see the light of day, over-pricing etc... he's still the man. I could say a ton of bad things about him, but at the end of the day it doesn't accomplish anything because I'll be anticipating the next release just like the rest of you nuts Well Said.

[quote][quote] thesexofit said: I just hated the way he went to internet when infact, some of us could not afford to have it back then....cheers prince!
I didn't have internet in the 1990s either. I used to order from 1-800-NEW-FUNK over the phone. A small catalog was sent to me but the only music in it was what was already in the retail stores. I did order NPG "Exodus" (big thrill...I could have done without it) and I saw it some retail stores later. One day, I checked my mailbox and "The War" cassette was in it...which I didn't order...that was a nice surprise. As for as the "Crystal Ball" album goes, I bought it on the day of it's release at Best Buy (one of the few retail stores that was carrying it at the time). When I finally did get the internet, I used to go to Prince's web site all the time. You could listen to samples of songs like "Hot Wit' U" (Remix)...I listened and said "big thrill, this ain't worth ordering". That's probably why I haven't join NPGMC because I knew the unreleased stuff would be tired junk like that. If he had unreleased stuff from the "old Prince", I would be beating down the doors to join. Andy is a four letter word.

This is one funny thread. I will say, I wasn't happy that Prince was going to be dealing with the Internet for album releases. I thought it was bad because he had a lot of fans who like me at the time, didn't have the internet. BUT I was determined to find out what was happening because I was and still am that interested in what's happening the man. There are still things that I don't have from that period like "The War" but I will get it soon.
When it comes to his music, Prince can be a dick sometimes and he can make it hard to follow him but it's his right to do what he pleases with his music. I knew that and I decided that it wasn't going to stop me from buying his music because he's given me so much music since I was a kid. All you have to do is accept that Prince is going to do his thing or not. It's that simple really. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

if you look at his retail releases since newpower soul in 98...rave in 99, TRC in 2001 or 2002 or whenever it was released to retail. ONA LIVE in 2003 and musicology now. its not like there was nothing happening. i thought the only thing he put on his club were the year one and two downloads? which yeah have now been put into albums the chocolate invasion and slaughterhouse, and he did ONA piano i suppose. so you did miss out on stuff, but thats why he's got the musicology download store so you can catch up on all that shit
plus, like someone said, there was 1-800 NEW FUNK, he was just trying to sort himself out during that period, and yeah he fucked up loads and it must have been frustrating, but all that work was to get where he is now and he's just won a technology use award from billboard for how good his site is and the download store. so it's all worked to this point, so enjoy it now!

he's evolving all right. at this point he seems the opposite of the person he was when the journey began.
and if someone had told me prince would end up the way he is today at the end of his ride i would have said wha?????

Anxiety said: more and more, i'm of the impression that prince meant music should be intellectually free, and not free of charge to the listener/customer...
Of course, that's what he meant. At no time did he say he was making music and giving it away for free. I can't help but laugh at the people who thought that way. Did some pepole really thought he was giving it away for free? Prince just didn't want for the suits, who had nothing to do with making the music, to have the money he was earning. Now he makes it and keeps it for himself. That's what he meant by freedom. If you don't want to pay for getting his music, then don't buy it.

ok, i got my cinnamon girl CD single today, so i'm not AS pissed. the packaging of the "domestic" single is pretty nice, but the only audio track on it is the album version of CG. other than that, it's a bunch of CD ROM special feature interview crap that i have to play on my PC, because NPGMC has some notion that we like that kind of thing so much. bleh! i far prefer the "import" version with "dear mr. man" and USOD. but ah well, i guess it's like collectible or something, tra la la.

so whats the interview like then? anything interesting? same ol', same ol'. no prince, but interviews with the director and the whale girl, and it's the same things they said in about a kajillion interviews that have been posted on the org and at NPGMC a kajillion times. oh, and there's a thingie with the lyrics too. whee. and in all fairness, the packaging is very, very nice. but that's it.

in his own way. but do madonna's fans say this when she charges through the nose for concert tickets? i think every artist with a fan base has to deal with lots of expectations - maybe some of 'em are fair, maybe some of them are a bit cracked out. who's to say, really?
