Yay! I Just Won This On Ebay

I'm so happy.

I just purchased the official VCD of the Lovesexy Live tour. It only cost me £7.96 plus postage.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/...RK:MEWN:IT

I found a program on the internet too which can extract MPEG data from VCDs.

It is a 5" VCD not a 12" Laserdisc.

You do realise that the encoding quality on a VCD is lower quality than VHS?

You can make this into an MPEG/AVI/MOV, at whatever rate you wish, but its only going to be as good as the source, and VCD is pretty crap, roughly equivelent to 3rd/4th generation VHS recording.

Nice keepsake though!

Yeah, I'm expecting a few Lego-land moments when the camera pans around quickly.

Are you sure Justin, the auction page said Laserdisc?

Yeah, because it's gold and small. There's another picture of it here: http://members.home.nl/me...videos.htm

Real laserdiscs are big and silver.

Oh, I don't know now. I've got doubt in my mind. I hope it isn't a CD-I because I won't be able to play it if it is.

Does anybody else have this?

LD's are Gold, and the pic on that site is listed under laser discs.

Looks like you might need an LD player!

You can bag them pretty cheap, my partner just got one from Ebay a few weeks back at £50.

Oh crap.

Could somebody please outbid me on this then: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/...RK:MEBI:IT

I've already bought the "Prince & The Revolution: Live!" laserdisc last month. I found a company in Manchester which will transfer it to DVD for me but they charge £25.00.

Maybe I should invest in a laserdisc player. My parents are buying me a DVD recorder for Christmas, so I could make my own copies with the aid of a few wires.

Justin, just retract your bid and say you made an error thingking it was a vcd - that would be the best thing to do if you don't want it.
Damned if i do, Damned if i don't!

Won't that affect my rating though? Do you think the seller will understand?

It won't effect your rating if the product is in fact described as something it isn't. I've seen this thing being sold before by the same seller, with the same description. It may be a re-listing.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I bought a Tears For Fears VCD the other day. Good content, bad visuals! You are right. I had "Everybody Wants To rule the world" in Lego vision! biggrin

Nah, it doesn't affect your feedback rating at all, does show that you've retracted a bid but it don't mean nothing. Its better to retract it before you win then not pay. I use ebay all the time & ain't nothing worse that a non-paying bidder! Good luck Justin!

£ = Pounds Sterling (British Money!). The exchange rate is almost double into US$, so about £25 = $48.

I guess the mystery will be solved soon enough when it arrives in the post. But I'm still unsure if I've bought a laserdisc or (as I originally thought) a VCD...

Look at this Curiosity Killed The Cat VCD... It's got the same logos and near-enough the same design:

The description goes on to state that it's a VCD.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/...87867&rd=1

I'd bid on this if I had any money left in the bank. This is the video which Warhol made an appearance in just before he died.

I mean...

and are laserdisc logos aren't they?

So wouldn't this logo:

refer to comething completely different?

I can't believe I let that Sign O' The Times disc go now.

sad

It's definately a 12" cd Video/Laserdisc.
I also bought this on ebay and transferred it to dvd before re-selling it on ebay!!

1p to 10p is 900% profit.

but i intend to sell the CD on for £1, which will also give me a 900% profit.

well when you think of 100% is total maximum then i am quite correct.

why would you want to do that though. hmm

i see what you're saying. If you'd bought it for 1p, and then sold it for £1,000,000 you would still only have a 100% profit because that's the 'imposed maximum.'
