The Second Coming During the Controversy Tour, "The Second Coming" was a song that was played on the PA system as an introduction.
Has anyone heard this song?

I've heard it. It's a gospel-type song, with Prince's voice multi-tracked into a makeshift choir (reminiscent of "For You" or "An Honest Man"). It's a short song, and not too bad, but as far as I know the only circulating copy is one recorded off of the PA at a Controversy show. So it's not really great quality, but it's a cool little song.

Although usually i'm not fan of his "gospel" songs
Here's a beautiful phrase from the song ; "How many more good man must die before there's gun control You've got to love your brother if you want to free your soul" The rest of the lyrics is about being "god's children " etc [Edited 11/27/04 19:21pm]

there ws also a movie filmed in 1981 called "the second coming".
it was to include live concert footage from the controversy tour mixed together with private documentary-style footage shot off stage and in princes purple house. the film was directed by chuck statler(directed "whip it" video for devo). at the last hour, prince decided he didn't like the footage and scrapped it. one part of the film has vanity leading another female (who is wearing a collar) with a leash!.....

Listening to this brief a cappella really sends shivers down my spine.
The vocal delivery and sheer intensity of it nearly did bring the house down wherever it was played over the PA before the gigs during the Controversy tour. The crowds in attendance always gave it a rapturous reception. . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

I love it. I have a bootleg video tape of the "Controversy" tour live from Washington, D.C. The song is played in complete darkness and then it breaks into "Sexuality". The lighting with the smoke makes the band look like they are standing in a stage full of fire. Andy is a four letter word.
