What is Prince's most genius decision ever?

In your opinion, what is Prince's most genius move ever?

In my eyes, it's the mystique he gave himself during the period between 1999 and Purple Rain. Was he or was he not the most enigmatic, electric musician ever during that period, and few knew who he was then before Purple Rain exploded. How he singlehandedly transformed himself into such a power then was absolute genius, and he probably couldn't even help it.

Everything he did before led up to that short time period, but that was his crux of genius, imo. Just listen to the music for evidence.

When he changed his name to prince. It kept him in the limelight(sort of...deffinately in the press) when much of his output(not all) was lackluster.

PBS

Record sale per concert ticket this year. This was so significant that the rules were changed so that the next act could not do the same thing.

Its also kept musicology high in the charts much longer too.

Getting an annulment instead of a divorce. Marriage? What marriage?
No alimony. No embarrassing tell-all deals for your ex.
It is amazing what you can do with a few million dollars, a pre-nup, and a room filled with lawyers.

There were a lot of brilliant decisions, but one I liked in particular was when he changed his name into an unpronouncable symbol...I really liked the spiritual /alchemistic approach and the Gold era that followed , and the whole transformation phase from ´93 till 2000 leading to the state in which he seems to be today...and how he , in the end, has turned things around and is free.
That was, among a couple of other things ( like building Paisley Park and not participating on We Are the World ) probably the coolest thing anybody has ever done in showbiz in a long time.....

I agree with Handclaps, "to not give a shit" biggrin

Also agree with the original poster about the build up to his commercial climax with PR.

Do not agree about Paisley Park - shutting himself up there didn't have a great affect on the music IMO neutral

TO wear pants over his string bikinis. Although, it took years to get to that point, it was worth it. I mean, what if he paraded around during the Musicology tour in string bikinis? Sheesh.

Gotta admit. Despite the differencies, you're hell of a funny guy sometimes.
