When U Were Mine

As much as I love Prince's original I think I enjoy Cyndi Lauper's version slighty more.

Did Prince ever comment on her version? I always wondered what he would have thought of it, and her in general.

I believe he wrote it after seeing John & Yoko in concert one night.

He said on a Love4oneanother chat interview that he wrote that song after listening to John Lennon sing.

Leave it to good Orgers to drop nice little trivia like this as I never knew that fact. And I always in most cases go with the original, but that's just me.

Without a shadow of a doubt, and without a hint of a lie I can honestly say this is my favourite Prince song, clearly and definitely. I listen to it constantly. Everything about it is perfect. Love all the different live versions he's done and yes I like Cyndi's version too, but this is so obviously a Prince song it sounds like a cover in anyone elses hands.

Im surprised to hear he wrote it after listening to Lennon. I see it more as a Blondie esque number.

I always liked Cyndi's version very much too, it's actually my fav song on that album besides 'She's so unusual', 'Time after time, 'Money changes everything, the whole album is good, can't make up my mind! But I don't think it can knock Prince's over. I haven't heard her version in a LONG time, wow...when her album first came out I didn't know it was Prince's song, all I knew was the Purple Rain album around that time

That song changed my life - made me want to play guitar. In my opinion, it's as perfect as a pop song can get. It was a little new wave, a little doo-wop, it had that classic backbeat, cool guitar hook, slightly perverted lyrics - what more could you ask for biggrin

Pure pop perfection!!!

I liked Cyndi's version -- precisely because it reminded me of Prince's kick-ass version.

It can't compare to the master.
