Hey Prince...

and I couldn't care less if this gets no hits or a string of responses.

Break out that old shit. You know, that shit you know everybody loves but you're too cool to do it again or at least release some unheard of stuff?

Who cares about coming out with something new? I don't care about that. I want some of that Purple Rain/1999/betwixt Dirty Mind/Controversy dung. You know?

Let's have it, chief. Let's have it and don't nobody get up in somebody's grille.

to qoute ur genius again: " A-MUTHAFUCKIN-MEN!" we do need the old stuff. Musicology is weak by total comparison to all his other stuff. ( well, most of it) but the 80 scene really needs to explode again. That would totally rock... since i only lived 2 months of my life in the 80s.. yet i am still drastically obsessed with it and the style. the music was at it's genius point in history too. all this lip syncing and shit is pathetic. let's get the real artists back. and a short man in bikini briefs. music drool3

He needs to work on releasing the old shit stashed away in the Vault. He can release new stuff all he wants, but he needs to remember that unless he comes up with another mind blowing album, the majority of his fans will like his 80's work more, and will continue to hope to God he loosens up a bit again.

This Preacher act of his is starting to piss people off.

Yeah, people don't like religion shoved down their throat.
I wis he would bring back some of that Darling Nikki-esque music.
it's sexy without being overt, unlike most music today in which artists (if you can call them that) blantantly tell you they want your ass, tits, etc, etc., blah, blah, blah.

I'm really hoping for a return of that 80s sound in music
in general but especially with Prince.

Dont get me wrong...I like the more organic sound too but I
Love synths and drum machines and electric sounding stuff
gimmee a return of that electro-funk-new wavey sound of the 80s
and I might die in this chair from joy overload! dancing jig
If you will, so will I

I really think that Prince is just going through his "thing" right now. When he's done with that everybody better watch out. It's going to be DIRTY MIND II
meets PURPLE RAIN with a hint of CONTROVERSY. I can't wait!!!!! I predict that it will happen 2 CD's after Musicology.

I'm sayin' nod after reading all of these posts about how Prince coulda...woulda....shoulda been this and that, i realized that there isn't anything wrong with Prince nor is there anything wrong with his string of recent releases. After Rave, I realized that Prince will probably never be able to capture that 80s sound again. And of course, I sat on my pity potty also and bitched and moaned about what I expected. But after The Rainbow Children, he shut me up pretty quickly and his whole catalog came into perspective once again.

the problem isn't Prince. It's people with this bullshit mindset about how YOU want Prince to sound like or what YOU think Prince should do to get big numbers for the next album.

Y'all giving all of this fake ass praise to Prince as a musician, performer etc and then turn around and shit on albums that are clearly a step up and beyond the montonous time warp ya'll minds are livin in.

it AINT 1984 people!

Purple Rain days are a wrap!

I'm not saying that you don't have he right to objectively critique the music. But, I'm so sick and tired of this fake ass support for Prince and then, turn around and crap all over albums that have some really great music on them. These albums might not be certified classics but they are still part of his ongoing evolution. Please let the man evolve. At the end of the day, no matter what he releases you'll still be trying to get your hands on it. Don't front.

I love post 80s Prince, I knew all that stuff before I had
even seen Purple Rain or even heard of Dirty Mind

But I also love the way people used their instruments in the 80s
the sounds were very new electronic. It would be nice to see
a ressugence of that sound in all aspects of music not just Prince
If you will, so will I

A resurgence of something that's already gone out of style. Now, how original is that? smile

The eighties was an INCREDIBLE time for music. Everything sounded different. Prince didn't sound like Michael J. didn't sound like Adam Ant didn't sound like Duran Duran didn't sound like Def Leppard. Different types of music were played together a lot. I wish it was still like that. I'm sorry to hear about people that were too young to experience the 80's but then again there are people that feel sorry for me because I wasn't around in the 50's or 60's.

2 quote the man himself:

"If you want something that sounds like 1999, go listen to 1999. I'm some place else now."

I wouldn't hold my breath 4 a "vintage Prince" comeback, but at least we have some kick a** stuff from those days that will NEVER get old.

There have always been different kinds of music available. Over time, it's simply become more critical to look for it.

You're right. And it's especially important to look for and support those bands that aren't the press darlings of the moment. I've seen some really great, strange, funky bands live that I would've never heard of on the radio.

Wow! I've been waiting since I found this site for someone to say that. Well done! A lot of people on this site aren't flexible enough to appreciate Prince's tremendous diversity as an artist. Some just want him to do the exotic stuff, while others are still waiting for him to release Purple Rain II.

From Soft & Wet, to SOTT, to Cream, to The Greatest Romance, to Call My Name. Some of you so-called lovers of his music need to realize how blessed you are to be living in the same era as a musical genius such as Prince.

And for the record: Musicology is a great album! Take a deep breath and enjoy it....
