Your LIFE

for over 25 years of his life via music and motion pictures,ect..ect. ect.. you have been under the influience of a "genuis"
if you were like sponges and soaked up all of the goods and the bads from his life and applied it to your own life, in what ways has this "genuis" life affected your life ...

The Electric Purple,
Prince

Prince has really only inspired me as a musician. He has had very little effect on the rest of my life, except for appreciation of his music and its inspirational quality.

Hmmm.

Good point.
Well, for starters, instead of finishing my enlistment in the military, I would have complained that I was a “slave” to uncle Sam, ignored the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and Air Force regulation 32-15 and grew long ass sideburns, and written “Slave” on my face. I would have also disobeyed any orders to shine my boots because they were made of leather and I would have insisted that the Base Exchange carry Canvas Boots and the Commissary boycott all their dairy suppliers.
Instead of going on to finish my Masters, I would have probably complained that all my professors were trying to teach me the will and truth of man, and not that of God. And that no female could ever get a masters degree without first having pussy control. My college career would have last probably one semester, if I didn’t’ get academically suspended.
As far as my sex life would have changed, all my girlfriends would have that Vanity, Kat, Carmen Electra semi-clown makeup drag queen look, and none of them would be able to produce real careers on their own so I would have to find a way to help support them, at least until they left me for more skanky boyfriends or to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. In other words, none of them would actually have pussy control themselves inspite of my admiration of such a trait, and the only woman I would know that actually had pussy control (Madonna), would not return my letters emploring her to help me join the crusaid against the big bad world and all its complicated contracts.

I probably wouldn't have such a strong commitment to art and writing and creativity if I hadn't latched on to Prince as Patron Saint of All Things Creative when I was a young'un. When I was a kid, he represented to me everything that was possible if you let your imagination run your life, which i didn't think was such a bad way to go about things (and i still don't).

i think he was also one of my first role models in terms of learning how to be obtuse and a brat. this would be expanded upon and refined into my own signature style later in life. mr.green

for starters, the majority of his music is positive, I have about more than 90% of all his music, including boots, his music has got me through a lot of down times in my life.

ok. ok. I would not have explored my spiritual path as deeply.
Prince took me out of a the Southern Baptist world I existed in and challenged me to consider what sprituality was. Years later, in some indirect ways, he actually helped me down the path to Buddhism.

Nothing Spiritual or Physical.
Prince simply adds to the quality of life. His music always gives me something to look forward too. Its in my car or at home. I almost pity those who dont appreciate his music on the same level as I do. Not in a cocky way, but in a "you are missing out" kinda way. Its like having a small secret to added happiness. I know folks who can ride in a car for hours with no sound. Very weird. Im rambling. I have nothing too deep to say. He didnt save my life but the enjoyment of his music has made my life markedly better. I have also learned how to play the piano mainly due to his influence.

There's probably dozens of ways Prince has influenced my mindset.

Prince has taught me it's cooler to go my own way and be my own person, or rather, reinforced that. Wear what you want because you think it's cool.

I've not been afraid to argue with bosses because I knew they were wrong and I was right and I wasn't going to have my chain yanked around by their whims.

Mostly, I've learned that it's cool to be obssessively passionate about what you do, in my case art and computer graphics, and take pride in your creations. Plenty of times I've stayed up until 4 in the morning working feverishly on a project just so it looks as good as I can make it. In my mind I've been like Prince working all hours on a new song...

I've worked on personal projects that have never seen the light of day, never needed approval or confirmation of every little thing I've done, as long as I'm happy with it.

I think the ultimate thing I've got from Prince is to always be your own person, sticking to your own beliefs and ideas while remaining flexible, whether you're going against the crowd or even when you're going with it.

I know that Prince had a huge influence on my life. All through school and college I felt impowered to be an individual and let myself stand out without fear, and he also inspired my art through his music. nod

In all seriousness, Prince helped me overcome severe depression. You Orgers who have met me would probably be surprised that I used to be an often miserable, stuck person who attempted to take my own life more than once. Prince's music was instrumental (ha ha!) in my overcoming a lot of bullshit in my life and learning how to be happy. Happiness is not your circumstances, it's a choice you make. It's in letting go. Prince has helped me to let go, to smile, to laugh, to sing weird shit at the top of my lungs, and dance, dance, dance.

He also made me feel sexy. His music and its amazing blend of sheer genius, heartbreaking vulnerability, absurd confidence and middle-finger-flying convention-breaking, speaks to the hot core of my being, puts me in touch with my deepest, most primal self. And you know what I found out? That self is dead sexy. biggrin

Thanks, Prince. rose

Oh yeah, Prince has inspired me to pick up my guitar and keyboard and try to play like him. Ha! Yeah, that's going to happen. I used to be able to play the beginning of Sometimes It Snows In April. I ran out of keys on my keyboard so I stopped learning it. Oh well....

I appreciate all types of music thanks to listening to him for practically all of my 25 years on earth. Plus, his music did help me get through some hard times in the past. I thank God for him daily.

Funkmistress, I'm very happy that you are still here with us. Knowing that you dealt with your depression in a healthy manner tells me that you are healed. It's all about love baby. Keep on singing and dancing. Who knows next time you hear someone else singing a Prince song at the top of their lungs, it may be me.

Now spank me.

I agree. This is how Prince has influenced me, too.

When I was younger, my friends (the girls) would hang outside 'till dark talking about boys and how so & so is trying to get with so & so's man and I'd be in the basement with my twin acting out plays that we had written, we'd take turns performing each others plays. We'd write short stories and read them to each other. We did some of everything. I remember my friend coming to the door knocking, and my mother said, "They're in the basement," and the look the girl had on her face when she saw us barefoot in the basement with props and "scripts" in our hands as though to say, "What the heck are you-all doing?"

To have passion for something other than s--, well, that's all right by me.

My passion for all things literary consumes me and this is why I know I can't get married.

Well, I'm rambling.

Okey-doke.

I'm so darn shy;
a knock at the door,

I think my appreciation of all things stylish, bitchy, and sexy has certainly been influenced by Prince.

Walk Don't Walk was my theme song in high school. I now recognize it as being very far from Prince's finest work ( wink ), but it truly helped me get through my days. And some of those days involved wearing purple satin pajamas and carrying canes to school. Who's the sexy bitch? I'm the sexy bitch? mr.green

Aaaaannnnndddd, he's helped me to remember that just because a person believes adamantly in a silent invisible being who rules the universe doesn't mean they can't do great things that are deeply meaningful to me.
