SURVEY: HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE IN THE THEATER (INCLUDING URSELF) THE 1ST TIME U WATCHED "Sign 'O' The Times"?

I decided to copy the thread about Cherry Moon and get some feedback about Sign 'O' The Times. The reason for this is that when I went to see it, in San Diego, on opening night, my sister and I...and three girls, were the only ones in the entire theater. And it was a BIG theater. I remember the attendants were talking about the movie at the concession counter and were saying how they didn't understand why no one was coming to see it. Anyway, the three girls that were with us in the theater were standing up and dancing through the entire movie and who could blame them; it's not like they were inconveniencing anybody. It closed a couple of days later.

I remember being sad about it, but then rejoicing when it was released pretty quickly on VHS.

Hmmm, I remember it not being full but not being empty either. Pretty much medium sized. It was only playing on one screen in Indianapolis when I saw it.

I saw it opening weekend in Northridge, California and I was the ONLY person in the theater. The guy in the projection booth cranked the sound for me and I was a little bit high, so it was an awesome and very personal experience.

I think there were maybe 5 and that includes me and My friend.

So bad, that we took snuck a boom box in to record the music. We didn't even have to hide it.

Under the cherry moon ruined it for Sign of the Times. Plus I remember NO marketing for it.

that happened for me once, only it wasn't SOTT - it was "the exorcist". it was very cool to be in the theater by myself, but i'm guessing you had more fun.

I saw it opening weekend -- can't remember if it was Friday or Saturday night -- it was a very late screening, went past midnight -- but the theater was PACKED. This was somewhere just outside Washington DC -- maybe Rockville, MD. Mixed audience, leaning african-american, very cool crowd, -- some people were smoking cigs & some smoking pot right in the theatre -- which was weird - not sure how they were getting away with it. There were definitely people grooving & trying to dance & stuff but overall it was a strange experience -- it just left me & my friend disapointed we hadn't gotten to see the show LIVE, in a real concert setting where we could really let loose, instead of having to sit in our seats...

I can't remember exactly how many other people were in the theater that night besides myself and the two people I came with, but I remember it wasn't very many - there was a blizzard going on that night and most people stayed home, but not us. lol

I thought the movie was great, and seeing SOTT on the big screen is awesome.

I don't think the film lasted long at that theater, however. neutral

I saw it in Memphis, Tennessee (where the failure to play "Soft and Wet" on the radio at least once a week is a criminal offense, apparently). Memphis was in the house at the Southbrook Theatre. It was at least 1/2-full.

I was there on opening night, only because my sister worked at the theater, and called me at 11:00 pm to tell me that Prince was going to be there premiering it. I spent 25.00 on a cab ride!! I could have killed her when I showed up in my pink bunny pj's and slippers only to find Sheila E! I wonder to this day if Sheila remembers the crazy teen in pj's screaming "Where's My Prince?" through the entire thing. If so, that was me!! cool There were about 20 other people there, most were employees of the theater though.

It was invited to a preview with local radio hosts and fans and there was not one empty seat lol lol nod.
I went to see it a second time some weeks later and there were maybe 30 people there.
In the following years there were summer specials of music movies in a local cinema and every time I went (maybe 4 times , once a year) the cinema was nearly full.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I can't remember how many people were there the first time I saw SOOT in a theatre but for about 2 weeks I went to see the matinee every day. I was usually the only one there, maybe a few people some days.
I LOVE that movie! biggrin

I had to go into the city (NYC) to see it. The theater was about 1/2 full- but nobody walked out. Everyone there had a great time.

Went with my girlfriends and it was a small crowd in the theater. SOTT is my favorite of P's but I did'nt care much for the movie. Poor sound and lighting.

I saw it a few days after it came out and I'm not kidding, there were only about five of us in the theatre. The movie is great, but I don't think it was promoted well. When I went back to school and told my friends about it,they didn't know anything about it.

This movie was a little different than the others for me. I didn't see it on opening night because it only opened in select cities first and I really didn't know when it made it here until a friend of mine (who is another die hard Prince fan) told me he had seen it.

There were about 15 people in the audience.

I saw it two days in a row in the college cinema on the University of Texas campus, and there was about 20-30 people each time. There was a lot of good reaction to some of the dance moves.

My brother won tickets to the preview which, of course, was packed! Great atmosphere, they had hidden LPs of Lovesexy under some of the seats (it was released the same week - in Australia, movies come out after the US).

We loved it, I don't know about everyone else!

I saw it here in San Francisco on opening night with my best friend. There were probably 40 people in the theater, but it was a BIG theater (NorthPoint, not there anymore). Then I snuck back the next night and saw it by myself again. So great on the big screen.People seemed pretty into it. I, of course, was mesmerized.

I saw Graffiti Bridge the same way - with friends first (who ridiculed the s&%t out of me!) and then by myself a few days later so I could be ashamed in peace! lol
