What Is U're Most Memorable Prince Concert Experience?

Prince's live shows are legendary, and 4 good reason. What was that one note, that one scream, that one heart stopping moment that made u're heart skip a beat? C'mon people, we've all had one. The moment I remember the clearest was the climax of "Pop Life" in Las Vegas in 1999. Unfortunately, it's the only show I've ever been able 2 go 2, but I'm sure some of u veterans have some great stories 2 tell!

I've been to 9 shows (soon to be 11!) and my most memorable experience was getting on stage during the Detroit show on June 23rd, 2001. We had second row seats, and I made eye contact with Geneva early on, so during the encore performance of "Gett Off," I was the first one to be called up. I jumped at the chance, and went nuts on stage. After the show, people kept congratulating on me for cutting loose so much and asked me if I had hurt my knees because in the heat of the moment, I repeatly dropped down on my knees onto the stage.

During Darling Nikki, 11/7/00 in Worcester...right when the song went from mellow boroque/classical to the hard distorted guitar driven chorus, I started laughing with joy. Everybody was screaming and jumping around. Also at the same show, during Purple Rain (played with only 5 strings due to a broken E) when everyone in the place started doing the 'wooo-hooo-ooo-wooo' part...I cried, it was so powerful.

That was my first P show and the one where I got to shake the man's hand!

in LA at the Key Club. I was down visit some family and I heard he was giving a small show there and they were giving away tickets on the radio and the concert was sold out. I kept calling and calling, then I finally got connected and my cell went out of range! It was horrible. Anyways, I was like "screw it! we're going down there anyways, even if I have to sit outside the building to hear the man jam!" So, went down to the Key Club (it holds, maybe, 500 people) - and actually found a scalper outside. bought tickets and funked the night away! He was so beautiful. We were literally like 3 feet away. This was the third time I had seen Prince and to see him in such a small venue was the best. Ahhhhh. wink

Has to be my first tour to Paisley for the Rave New Year's Eve 2000 show. I'm even on the DVD! It was like going to Willie Wonka's Chocolate Factory seeing the studio and the doves and all the plaques. Met George Clinton in the lobby, Holli Robinson, Billy Sparks, Lenny Kravitz, Amanda Lewis, what a blast. Ya know they taped the first two songs twice. Prince said the floor was too slippery so he made 2 entrances. That was cool to see him practicing the splits. He made us wait a few hours with no alcohol to stay awake, but it was one of the most exciting moments of my life. 1999 was one of the first albums I ever bought and now I was seeing him play it in 1999 at Paisley Park. There was a big jam at the end with Johnnie Lang, Maceo and George Clinton, a bit of it is on the DVD. Prince playing bass on "Flashlight" was so cool. I still have my metal purple ticket, purple popped balloons and some purple feathers. All you Mpls folks were very cool too. Anybody else go to the show?

I was at a benefit concert at Glam Slam Minneapolis prior to TGE being released. He had the "male" section of the endorphinmachine set up on the stage, and Mayte spent a lot of time dancing all over the place. I was in the front row, and he performed ALL new music. I had never heard any of it, and it was absolutely incredible! He was so into the music and the crowd. I remember more than once making eye contact with him, and he smiled. He also reached into the crowd more than once, and I remember thinking that his hands felt so soft! Beautiful....

So many, it would take a few webpages. I think the 4 am soundcheck at Glam Slam L.A. around the Beautiful Experience era was memorable. Just me, the maintenance people, a few bartenders, his guards and Prince with his white eye bass doing 777-9311 on the floor.

Then 1988 Lovesexy at LA Sports Arena, my first show, too young to realize effectively that there was a possibility of AN AFTERSHOW! Aaargh!

Then, many many Glam Slam performances and experiences.

I think though that I really enjoyed the Palladium show last year.

It would have to be the April 1997 show in Hollywood at the Pantages Theater. I remember I was only 17 and I lied to my parents about where I was because they never would have let me drive that far. I went with my girlfriend and it was our first Prince concert. I had read in an interview that Prince said he was not going to do old songs at concerts anymore. So when I went to this show I thought it was gonna be all Emancipation stuff and newer. Well 3rd or 4th song he went into Purple Rain and I almost died. I was so excited. I remembered when he busted into his guitar solo I raised my hand to wave it (like in the movie). I was on the edge of the aisle and I knocked some gaurd in the head. Never forget that experience.

Mine is kind of funny because it wasent really a PRince concert. It was at last years celebration when Prince got on stage with Common. Something about the way he took the mic and started singing "There are times when U need someone..." I dont think I have ever experienced such chills run through my entire body like that in my life. I guess at that moment I had realised where I really was and how long and hard it took me to get there.

I've been to every US tour he's done since the Triple Threat in 83, but the most memorable has to be the Celebration in 2001.

My mom has ALWAYS been a Prince "resistor", favoring Michael Jackson for his "wholeness". Well I dragged her from Dallas to Minneapolis (and I mean DRAGGED her) for the Celebration.

After the Friday night St. Paul show in June 2001, she is suddenly a Prince nut, trying desperatly to drag my father to the Celebration this year.

If you knew my father, you'd know how hilarious that is!

Uhm, the aftershow in Tivoli, Utrecht Holland.
Seeing him jam with Lenny Kravitz was awsome, they had this groovy jam towards the end of the show (as I rememeber it anyway) with this funky guitar riff.
But Paradiso (Amsterdam) was kewl too. The two shows he did there were awsome with the funkiest groove on Days O' Wild I ever heard.

My first Prince concert when I was 14, Dortmund 1988. When I came home from school one day my mother told me she had a surprise for me: tickets to Prince in Dortmund! I was so happy! The concert was fabulous and I have it on video because they aired it on Dutch television that same night. I still think that the band on that tour has been the best band ever for Prince. I love Eric Leeds and Sheila, Miko and all the others. Prince looked incredibly happy that night and the show was extremely entertaining, my favorite part of the show is Prince on the piano. That man can sing. Sometimes I think if I ever ended up in a coma, call Prince and have him sing in my ear. You bet I'm gonna wake up!

first concert was the Lovesexy stop in Oakland ('88?). I was SO bummed I couldn't see the PR tour (I was too young & nobody would take me evil) so I was TOO excited to see my first P concert since I'd been into him for so long.

BLOWN AWAY

The band was incredible, the set (w/ the car) was great, the songs were positive & powerful - he lit up the Coliseum that night.

It was my 1st concert of his in '93 @ Radio City. A few songs in2 the show I realized just how great of a performer he is and how much energy and stamina he has. What impressed me most was the fact that with all his jumping off of the piano and prancing around the stage, his voice was strong and clear as a bell. He sounded just like on the records if not better. Not like a lot of the other pop performers of 2day who use the excuse they want 2 focus on the dance moves and sound as if they r about 2 pass out.
I was mezmorized by the guitar solo and after the concert I was lucky enough 2 get picked out of a long line 2 get in2 Club USA 4 the after show. I'd say that experience was pretty memorable biggrin

I was at a L41A show in San Diego in 97 I think and He was in the middle of Face Down and commenced playin Bass Guitar and Piano @ the same time. It was outrageous. I couldn't believe my eyes or ears!!

A close second was during The Ride, this Harmonica player came out during the solo slot with all the red light around him and smoke. He starting belting out this solo that came from the depths of hell, it was insane.

those were live incidents.

my most incredible TV experience happened when I first got in2 prince a little after prince came out and he said he was recording anymore. I was so mad. but then he did the VH1 Honors w/ Interactive and Endorphinemachine. itw was the craziest stuff I'd seen him do, new and I hadn't heard it yet and was highly impressed and exstatic.

My favorite concert experience was last June, when I flew from LA to Minneapolis to see Prince. Because of the NPGMC, I managed to get a front row seat and the show was incredible. He performed guitar solos from many of my favorite songs while standing less than 5 feet
away from me and by the end of the show, he decided to have some special guests sing and play on stage. Jamming up there with him were Common, Erykah Badu, and Maceo Parker. During this last jam (Come On), they were picking people in the first few rows to come on stage and dance and I got
selected. I was shakin' my ass so hard that Prince actually stopped the song and said "We need to get a spotlight on this guy... he's jammin." So there I
was, in front of all my friends, and in front of about 25,000 people in Prince's hometown dancing on stage, with a spotlight, no less. A few days later a picture of this experience showed up on Prince's official web-site.
It was absolutely incredible!!!! And then of course, the bootleg of the show came out and my picture is in the booklet! Man, I hope a video of this show starts circulating!

It was the 1984 Purple Rain concert in Worcester, Ma. So many things happened I try to run them down briefly. Finally by the end of the show I got to the front of the stage and I looked up and he was standing right above me staring down at me and of course I tripped in other words I got stupid and couldn't move. Then the guy who tunes his guitars slapped a backstage pass on my thigh which was definitely cool to me. That allowed me to go to the after party at the lounge in the hotel. I was having a drink and a friend came and told me Prince was coming in. I was asking where was and when I turned around he was walking straight towards me. Again dumbfounded I couldn't move, but then I realized that if I didn't move he was going to walk right into me and that intimidated me so just before he walked into me I moved.
Then he started a playing and I can't remember what because it was so long ago, but he asked what did we want to here? And I started screaming DO ME BABY and I have a very tiny voice, but everyone stop yelling and sat down and I was still standing yelling DO ME BABY and he looked at me and I was praying he wouldn't diss me with a line like and if I did what would you do kind of question. I put this big ol smile on my face and he just smiled and went into a song. my heart was pounding in my chest.
Then Wally (if you remember him from the SOTT days) kept saying to me any where you want to go baby you can go. I did not get what Wally meant so I kept saying no that's okay. So he went over to Prince and whispered something in his ear and Prince looked at me and shook his head yeah. Now I was really bugging.
So by the end of the show I ended up with Wally, Prince, and two bodyguards just standing there. Noo one was saying anything. I believe they were waiting for everyone to leave so they could take Prince out.
I started calling out to him and he kept looking at his Marilyn Monroe button on his coat. So I said give me that button and reached out my hand. I had to be at least 5 or 6 steps away from him and this skinny 2** body guard swung my arm back and that hurt. I couldn't have even touched Prince from where I was standing. I'm little woman but after he did that to me it was on up in there. Then they grabbed Prince and off they went.
That night Sheila E , Susannah was there and everyone had on silk pajamas at the atfer show.
And this is for the Ladies of the org. The brotha sat down on the step with his legs opened, and Rhapsody tilted her head to the side Hmmmmm MAKES ME THINK THOUGHTS.
Inner Peace yall,

Atlanta, 2000...My first prince concert after being a fan for about 10 years. I have a list of things I MUST do before I die, and on that list was "Hear Purple Rain performed LIVE." As soon as I heard the band gearing up for the song, I could feel chills down my spine. And by the time he was halfway through the first verse I was crying hysterically. I must've looked like a lil b*tch cuz I cried throughout the entire song..it was so bad my best friend had to hold me. Apparently I was not the only one touched by the song because this dude that was standing in front of us just turned around and joined in on the hug. I'll never forget that moment.

btw, that was my first and last 3 dude hug...

It's gotta be when Prince let me play with him on stage. It's not what you think. At the Oakland sound check at Hit & Run, he let me play the Blue Angel in the background while he answered fan questions onstage. I got his attention when I played a 'blusey' redition of Purple Rain.

Much fun.

It was Mayte's 21st birthday, November 12, 1994. After Glam Slam closed for the night we headed out to Paisley for what we thought would be a regular party. Only the regulars were let in. Back then parties were held in the courtyard of Paisley. It was decorated to look like a jail with the bands instruments set up on the floor. Prince and Mayte came down and someone brought out a cake. Prince started us singing Happy Birthday and Mayte blew out the candles. Everyone got a piece of the German Chocolate cake. Prince and the NPG performed for 45 minutes. I was only 5 feet away from Prince eye to eye.

Those were the days of wild.
