Question about PR and UTCM DVDs and Widescreen I just bought a new Widescreen HDTV and progressive scan DVD player.
Of course I first put in my UTCM and PR DVDs. Couple questions (and bear with me I'm not a video expert): 1. Are the special features such as the videos supposed to be in widescreen? They didn't seem to be. (My tv has several aspect choices which you can pick, either true wide or various stretch versions so i want to know which one to use when watching the videos). 2. In UTCM, in the Mountains video..... when the band is in color kinda floating through the air, there are purplish/blueish edges around them sometimes. Is that just my TV or is it an artifact of the blue screen they used to make the video? 3. The Girls and Boys video seemed like the sound was not in sync.... like bad lip syncing. is that normal? Thanks. [Edited 11/17/04 22:07pm]

No - don't sound like theres anything wrong with your TV. The movie only is in wide screen - all the things you mention are normal -- or at least seem normal [Edited 11/17/04 22:01pm] "3 1 2 1"

I just got one of those nice widescreen tvs too, and the picture often looks a little more blurry on it then on my other tv -- I think it stretches the picture a bit. I'm gonna have to play around with the settings, I guess.
edit: I had my tv on closed-captioning the other day while watching Purple Rain and it shows a lot more than the subtitles do -- I never knew that Prince was saying "Purple Rain!" at the final notes of "Let's Go Crazy" -- I wasn't sure what he was saying. Also, in "Baby, I'm a Star" I always thought Prince was saying something like "Back door!" when he in fact is saying, "Doctor!" before Dr. Fink starts jamming on the keys. There were a few different things like that. Also, Jerome is called "Thickheaded" by the garbage-can girl and "Onionhead" by Morris. I never heard those that way until I read them. And at the end of "What's the password?" Morris says "'IT' or 'RIGHT'?" -- I always thought he was saying, "Get it right!" Maybe that's why Jerome says, "Wha..?" Oh, and during "Modernaire," Dez sings something about "Pessimistic attitudes... never will I win." Anyway, I highly suggest watching the movie with your closed-captioning turned on! oh yeah... and what's up with Jerome saying "So sexy" two times? [Edited 11/17/04 22:32pm]

yeah I'm noticing that too. I read that when you get one of these tvs, it actually makes regular tv look worse cuz it makes all the imperfections show. right now i have the regular cable plugged in... waiting for cable to come and give me a new HDTV box. anyway.....I guess i'll have to switch the mode when i watch the videos and stuff rather than use widescreen mode. but I was surprised by the blueish edgews in Mountains and what seemed like bad audio sync in Mountains... I don't remember that from the 80s .
