Sign O' The Times Packaging?

I got SOTT, but I only got the booklet with the lyrics/etc. to Disc 2. Both discs were included in the two-set case, but there is no booklet for songs on Disc 1. Why is that?

And also, on the back cover of SOTT that I have, it only lists the tracks on Disc 1. My friend thought the whole album was 9 tracks, but I told him that that was only the first disc, but how come the tracks for Disc 2 weren't listed on the back cover?

And also, I got Nas' "Street's Disciple" today (2-disc set) and on the spine of the case it says his name and the album title on both flaps on both sides, but on SOTT that I have it only says Prince and the album title on one of the flaps on each side, and the other flap on each side is blank white with a serial number, and the peace sign was (it looks like) drawn on because it looks like it says "Sign O The Times" and the "" marks around the O and the lines inside to make the peace sign were drawn in.

Did I get some kind of bootleg-ghetto-messed up packaging for SOTT or what? The case or anything don't matter because I have the music, but I would like to know why I couldn't get a booklet for songs on Disc 1 and would like to believe that if this was some ghetto packaging, perhaps this is why there was only one booklet... do you know what I'm saying?

Do all of you who own SOTT have some kind of different packaging or even a booklet for songs on Disc 1?

I have seen several packaging jobs of SOTT. I have one that is two separate jewel cases with separate tracklists for each CD on the backs. There is also the classic double case like Nas' CD. Then I believe there is the new double CD style that looks like a single CD but has the flipper in the middle with two discs on it. I suspect that you got a copy that someone originally got in one of these other formats and then put into a double case. If any of that makes sense.

At first SOTT is released as two single cd’s, both with a booklet containing the lyrics of the album, and a back with the tracklist for the specific single album. These cd’s could not be bought seperate.

Later on these two single albums were replaced by a double album in a thin double-case.

These thin double-cases were introduced somwhere around 1990 ... Before that a double cd was always packed in a thick double-case (like the 4cd-sets nowadays) ...

A thick double-case takes more space than two single cd’s! ... and two single cd’s have more artwork and two booklets. Hence : two single cd’s are better than a double album in a thick double-case.

After the invention of the thin double-case around 1990 SOTT is released as a standard double album.

Seconded. I am looking for a "fat 2 CD box" version myself. I have the 2 separate disc set (bought on day of release) and the current 2 discs in one slim case version, but want the fat case to complete the set... oh and I have the vinyl too. biggrin

Well, as misty2k put it, I guess I have the "fat 2 CD box" which only gave me the one booklet and etc. So, I should just get the 2 single CD's of SOTT?

I mean, it would only make sense to have 2 booklets for 2 discs or 1 booklet that included stuff for both discs, right?

It DID have a booklet.
It's just that the copy you got didn't have, so you just got a 'faulty' copy.
Why don't you take it back to where you got it, and get a proper copy?

So, Disc 1 did have a booklet? I didn't get one.

Reason why I can't get a proper copy is because 1) people wouldn't believe me because I got it a long time ago, and 2) because I bought it from BMG Music Club over the internet, so yeah...

I guess I'm just going to have to buy another copy myself, but it sure does suck that my copy was the messed up one. Welcome to the story of my life... confused
