Reality check: Purple Rain was 20 years ago. First Avenue is more about jam-band music and reggae than it is about funk or Prince or anything to do with him. Let it go (already).

What's your point? Do you think people are going there looking for Prince and Apollonia? They're going there to enjoy good shows. Nobody's expecting him to show up.

Oh because Prince is the only musician out there and people couldn't possibly be going to First Ave for any other reason right???

me too, but i don't get paid till saturday. r.t. rybak said that he's gonna stage-dive at that show--i'd pay top dollar just to see that alone. horns

for those of you who are being smarmy-assed about this whole thing:

if i had it my way and if i had enough money, i would buy tickets to various shows/events, give 'em to those who are still stuck on thinkin that first ave. is prince and vice versa, make them go there and come to find out that neither first ave., nor the city of minneapolis is some princely valhalla. i wish folks could do some friggin homework and find out more about a venue, besides whatever association with p it has. i've done it...don't see the harm in other people following suit. you'll learn a helluva lot.

Minneapolis mayor RT Rybak said he will stagedive the first night First Ave is open. That would be wild if he stage dived at a GWAR show! Here is the quote from a Startribune article:

"Everyone was in mourning last week when First Avenue closed, but now they should be thinking about going in there and spending money to support it," said Rybak, who promised to do a stage-dive on reopening night."

Okay, now you know what they need to do? Invite Prince to come and do a 3-4 day stand (maybe as a rehearsal for his upcoming European tour) and make it an all out party. This will take care of the bad vibe that seems to have taken over at First Avenue, businesswise.
