Listen, babygirl: I know and love funk.....and It Ain't Over sho ain't it. IMO that disc is the worst, most boring, blandest one he's ever released, and that includes News and Xpectation. once again, i agree with you i had such high expectations about this box set before i heard it. as always, i'd been feeding on the score of bootlegs that were out there from this tour. Once sounding more amazing than the others, with the concerts being great and the rehearsals and aftershows being just damn incredible. Some of those soundcheck/rehearsal and aftershow songs and jams are among the best/most freaked out/most funky/hardest/best best best performances he ever gave. The whole world tour dripped with a filthy stench of talent that could be whiffed up half a country away. There were jams so deep and dark and thick that it felt you were being dipped in warm molasses. There were guitar break outs that blew your hair back and shook the rimples out your face lol. The band featured brilliantly as well, with Renato being one of the most shining bandmembers EVER. The man played solo's and cuts that made my mind go absolutely mad. There was Rotterdam, There was NightTown, there were the many USA tour rehearsals, there were great and greater things at the many different concerts etc etc. And then we got the box set Oh boy. The concert disc is just a wasted chance. For the first time in 25 years he releases a live album and he can't even be bothered to take 1 decent show and release it COMPLETELY. No, it's cut up bits and pieces from various shows of only the US leg of the tour (still feel he should have waited to include the best european and asian performances as well). But the aftershow disc. Argh. First there's Joy In Repetition, cool enough, but wasted by the horrible horrible reference to NO CURSING which should not have been allowed to fuck up the lyrics to such a mysteriously cool tune in the first place. For all the guitar madness, it's cool, altho Larry does go a bit over the top imo. Then there's a whole lot of nothing. There's even a song called "2 Nigs United 4 West Compton" which, strangely isn't that at all. It's a mediocre jam at best. But compared to jams from C-NOTE it sucks big fat hairy gopher balls. Peach, another example of picking a bad performance. Of all the performances of Peach I heard from this tour (about 15) this has to be the blandest of them all. It sounds so held back and so uhm, i don't know. To top it off, Renato's breezy keyboard licks have been put so low into the mix that you only hear them if you know that they are there. The disc continues with crap. Then we get Dorothy Parker. Which features a very cool piano solo by Renato (thank god he did get some space on an album by Prince) but beyond that there isn't a whole lot to like on that disc. Same with the concert disc. should have included some other tunes. where for example is Days Of Wild, the one and only song he saves for live performances and never released in a studio version? he's been playing it for a decade non stop dagnammit and now he releases a live album and it ain't included?? same thing with the hardrocking version of Paisley Park, it was sooo cool, yet it's nowhere to be found. Like with Dolphin in a new arrangement or the ultra hard performances of Bambi. Nope, i still feel like this is a huge wasted chance. To top it all of the album is mixed so incredibly stale that it sounds like a muted studioalbum. where the fuck is the audience? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

You don't think "Boys and Girls" is funky !!! You don't like the new version of "Dorthy Parker". It is the same version he did on Jay Leno that everybody raves about on this board. I am not wild about the guest stars on the cd but I find that I play this CD a lot more so than the other disc in the box. Everytime I play it for someone they want a copy of it. To see people rave about "Joy in Repitition" and dis the rest of the songs makes me think you are more of rock n roll fan than funk fan. I think P has put together a incredible band and after I heard this disc I knew the next tour was going to even better. Turns out I was right.

I've browsed through 3-4 posts tonight on Prince.org and I find nothing but complaining and subjective criticism. I'm going back to Housequake.com If you don' t like to hear/read other peoples opinions, then don' t visit a public forum. everybvody should be free to speak their mind. For worshipping only, go to the npgmc-site. ----- Voog did't say anything about not liking other people's opinion. Just does not get the non-stop bitch fest on this board. Particuly when someone is putting him down for not using the King's English. I don't understand why people don't appreciate a live recording. Are we that brainwashed from lip synching and videos.

Istenszek, once again I agree with you! 100 thousand percent, actually.
Laura, you never fail to make me chortle. The King's English.....loves it!!! No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I like the album, though they could have done a much better job.I wish they made a live album that shows Prince performing songs from different tours. There's not enough guitar on the album, that's what I think...That 3rd cd,the aftershow?I don't get it.Why didn't they released some other aftershow from the past? He's done alot of aftershows that were much better...

it makes my jaw lock from grinding my teeth too hard.. That part cracks me up, he's making fun of her. I like ONA, but I wish that for his first live album he had chosen a show with songs that more people wanted to hear, like ....I don't know....MUSICOLOGY?!! What other artist would release a live album that takes like 6 or 7 songs to get to one that anybody outside of a web site like this one would know? Not so crazy about the Aftershow disc, though. I don't think that Live at the Alladin is perfect, but it's better for the casual fan. It's more fun. Check this song out at:

You know where he says before a few songs, "if you know the words, sing along. If you don't know, you better "ax" somebody."
