LIVE AID AND PRINCE.

with the dvd of live aid just having been released, i was thinking back to july 1985 and the memories of watching it. it really was a huge event back then with most of the worlds big music stars involved but the biggest pop star on the planet at that time was missing from the live aid singles and the concerts. .....yes, of course, prince, who was at his commercial peak at this time on the back of "purple rain"(24 weeks at number one in the us!!!) and another number one album "around the world in a day"(3 weeks)....
....
...i wonder how prince would have done had he taken part in those concerts, would he have went down a storm like queen did?...or a lead balloon like led zeppelin?(no pun intended)

it just wasn't his bag...i think the way he contributed was appropriate; i thought bob geldof calling him a jerk was bad form.

I'm thinking of buying it for Queen's performance alone.

please tell me (since I'm 16 and haven't seen it)

what do they sing/ is it any good, or is it basically the same performance as on the wembly dvd

thanks

if you can rent it, like from netflix or something, i'd totally recommend you sit through the whole thing at least once. as an event, the whole day's performances were just phenomenal. queen was great - even some of the artists who i didn't (and still don't) like were impressive to me.

Snap

Prince had seen enuff poverty in his own life to know that some of that American money should've stayed here to help our own. He was making his stand, but maybe his shoes were to tall, that if others walked in them, they'd fall... you know the rest.

Could someone refresh my memory and tell me why, with 4 discs no less, they didn't include the Prince video, 4 The Tears in Your Eyes? I'd buy it but for that.

It does include the Band Aid & USA 4 Africa Videos + some BBC news reports.
The whole package is a bit dissapointing, they really didn't make an effort
2 upgrade the sound&vision 4 the DVD format.

What I read is that the footage wasn't originally to be recorded! It was a deal with the tv stations! But the BBC (I think) and MTV did made some recordings after all... The American tv was faithfull, and didn't record anything, that is why there isn't all the material left anymore!

I have heard that they have "lost" alot of the performances (weather u buy that or not), hence not all the footage on the DVD. Maybe they "lost" the Prince performance, either by accident or deliberate, who knows????

Nah, prince was a twat 4 not doing it! Damn he had an ego.....Bob was right to call him that! Prince was just being an asshole, same with the charity single he didn't do.....he takes himself too damn seriously like Michael Jackson, who also mysteriously didn't bother to preform, and he co-wrote the damn "we r the world" song too!

The 3 biggest, worldwide names at the time (particually in US) did not perfom at live aid:-

Bruice Springsteen
Prince
Michael Jackson

Bruce had an excuse as he had tour commitments, plus he left some of the sound equipment from his previous Wembley concert in the UK 4 the live aid gig....which was nice and very important I imagine!

These 3 r also the 3 of the handful of best live performers of all time (not just 80's) and so if these 3 had perfromed, then concert woulda had 3 mega highlights I'm sure like Queen etc.....
