It's obvious that it's because of these radio stations who refuse to play the song but we already know that... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Simple as. Had he released ICP&C or What Do U Want Me 2 Do it would've been a different story. Yup. Yall are laughable to say that Cinammon Girl is not doing well because the song is not good...thats saying that the songs that are doing well on the top 40 is because they are good, stellar and groundbreaking..PLEASE!!! is that what yall are saying??? what a joke!

Cinnamon Girl cannot do well because of its message. Calling the War on Terror an alibi, showing a girl blowing up an airport on account of being stigmatized (even if it's only fantasy) is not going to get you a lot of airplay and rotation in 2004, especially not after Bush's win. The song quality is irrelevant -- Cinnamon Girl may not be the best song has ever written, but it's quality material in an accessible way.

Simple as. Had he released ICP&C or What Do U Want Me 2 Do it would've been a different story. Yup. But ICP&C and What Do U Want Me 2 Do are nothing new either. The drum machine sound on "What Do U Want..." is so similar to "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker" from 18 years ago... and "ICP&C" sounds like many of his '90s jams. I really don't think there is anything new on "Musicology"-- it is not an innovative album. It's more focused and tightly produced than most of his albums since "The Gold Experience," but it is not innovative. It isn't really meant to be innovative, though-- I think it was meant to get him back into the mainstream public eye and show that he could still put out a well-crafted, focused album that would appeal to people outside of his hardcore fanbase. "Cinnamon Girl" is a decent song for a single... I don't know, I don't know if Prince is really the "Top 10 hit" kind of artist anymore. Not in today's marketplace where all the good music is slept on. He is trying to do what he did in the 80s-- release songs that have his own stamp on them, but were also hits. Hence a song with a message in it. At least it still has an element of bravery in it that way. Whether or not it sells big-- does that even matter anymore? It only matters if the purpose of this album was to "sell," which I think it was. Prince wants to be an artist for art's sake while also wanting to sell millions of records. He was lucky that he was able to do this for as long as he did-- most people never can.

had Cinnamon Girl been a quickly released 2nd single, on the heels of Musicology and when the tour was still going strong, i think it would have done much better. It's a repeat of SOTT, where Prince relesed the wrong 2nd single. But back then, he had enough commercial clout on the radio to recover from it, and U Got the Look was still a massive hit.
Alas, that is not the case today for Prince.

You are absolutely right. Given the sad nature and politics of the election, there will be much resistance to alternative views of the War on Terror. Unfortunately, Pop radio hates to rock the boat on issues not related to sex. This is especially the case when the topic is as political as this one is. However, I think that he can still make this one of his signature protest songs that his diehard audience gets to hear whenever he tours. Kinda like our own little way of fighting the power when he's in town (if that makes any sense). It might also help the CM cause if Prince were to appear somewhere on television and perform the song. This way, even if radio doesn't have the guts to play it, the song can still develop a solid underground following. The Tavis Smiley show... or anywhere else. Althought difficult, there are ways of Prince getting around conservative radio stations if he so chooses.
