When did Christopher Tracy jump the shark? Before we get started, let me say that I LOVE UTCM from beginning to end. After I subjected my frieds to it (countless times), this debate sprang up: When does Christopher Tracy jump the shark in the movie. My friend's ideas:
1. When it fades to black and white 2. Having a guest while bathing 3. Bela Lugosi eyes. For non-Prince fans, there are a million more! Any ideas? It's a fun question so anyone who gets upset by it is a double-drag fool!

When he gets shot. It looked a little goofy, wouldn't you say?
I know when The Kid jumped the shark. It's when Apollonia says "King Kong?" & The Kid says "Stop!" in a sort of Michael Jackson-esque way. That line never fails to make me slink down in my seat & cover my head!

hmmmm, good question...
I would have to say the Bela Lugosi eyes...kinda funny but tough to watch...I felt embarrassed for him as he did this. I believe by doing this movie, Prince believed his commercial success was based on "him", not his music. I think he has come to his senses. In the ATL soundcheck, someone asked if he planned to make anymore movies. His answer was that he was focusing on the music.

Jump the shark? Do you even know what that means?
"In pop culture, jumping the shark is when something that was once very good -- it could be a TV show, a band, or a series of movie sequels -- makes a desperate attempt to remain fresh and relevant, and instead goes bad" http://digitalmass.boston.../1126.html Continue on to read that article. Or read this page that is dedicated to JtS: http://www.jumptheshark.com That said... Prince's Jumping the Shark moment would be his name change. That went very bad for him. Although it could be argued that Prince was actually fighting a battle there, that would make his only JtS moment _Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic_ DONT GET IT TWISTED [This message was edited Wed Apr 10 12:50:52 PDT 2002 by Dauphin] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Didn't nobody ask when "Prince" jumped the shark. I asked when "Christopher Tracy" jumped the shark. Christopher Tracy was "once very good"--hell, he wrote Manic Monday. So ANSWER THE QUESTION! Oddly enough, I was relating what a Jump the Shark would look like in the Prince world.
Granted, I will agree that my post doesn't clear that line. So I'll cut you slack on that. As far as "Chistopher Tracy": he never does. It is impossible to JtS on a single movie on it's own. Simple as THAT. fricken grammar errors [This message was edited Wed Apr 10 13:17:46 PDT 2002 by Dauphin] [This message was edited Wed Apr 10 13:18:25 PDT 2002 by Dauphin] -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Seconded. When your music is going downhill anyway, it doesn't help things to make it a pain in the ass for anyone to talk about you, refer to you, or write about you.

Actually "jumping the shark" is a reference from the Happy Days tv series. An episode where Fonzie jumped a shark on water skis. That's generally referred to as when that series went downhill in retrospect by Happy Days fans.
From then on any good tv series (or a tv series with good ratings) that eventually goes downhill, fans usually can pinpoint what went wrong and when. Hence: "jumped the shark". This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
