Nope. Not losing his mind. Just an identity crisis.

What I want to know is how does it sound? And how many did he actually record before he got tired of it and moved on to another mindscape?

Remember, this surfaced when he had recorded The Purple Medley, for which he re-recorded parts (or maybe whole songs, why not?) to create a cool retrospective...

I think for a while it was fun for Prince to re-record old joints into a new skin, making them fun again to play again.

Artist To Re-Record Prince Catalog

The Artist released 17 albums while signed to Warner Bros.

The Artist says he intends to re-record all 17 albums he released during his tenure with Warner Bros. (1978-95), according to the Associated Press. The new versions will be issued on his NPG Records label, allowing him to keep a larger share of the profits than he gets from the Warner Bros. releases. Earlier this year, The Artist released a re-recording of his hit single "1999." In other Artist news, he announced this week on his official website (www.love4oneanother.com) that the title of his next solo album will be Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic.

... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... .....

I think he really wanted to do this, it's just that he re-did 1999 with Larry on the Dez vocals and found out what shit sounded like... which led him to say, "fuck this!"

...and it was never spoken of again. confused
