musicology is growing on me. I really didn't like this album at first.
I burned Call My name and If I was the man in U're life on an another c.d. and pretty much left it on my shelf. This week. I've listened to it all the way through 2 or 3 times. And it's getting better and better. Is it growing on anyone else.

Personally, I always liked it. I've had it going in my car for a few days now, after not listening to it for a few weeks...and I have to say it sounds darn good. Musicology is the bomb. I totally love this CD. I never did get why others don't like it. It's a CD I can play all the way through without skipping over a song. I can play the whole CD all the way through and never get tired of it. Musicology is all of that and more. It will go down as one of his best CD’s imho.

I have to agree with you Pennylover. I'm really surprised that a lot of you don't really dig this CD more. It's a really great CD and it the first CD of his that I still listen to regularly 6 months after it's release since somewhere in the 90's. I love it and it will be remembered as being a great Prince album. No doubt in my mind about that. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's one of those albums you think "yeah it's OK", but when you put it on you find yourself really digging it. But then next week you'll be thinking "yeah it's OK" again Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

I like "Musicology"
I don't think there is a bad song on the album.

I had to drag it back out on Wednesday to get me through the verdict of the elections. I have been listening to "Dear Mr. Man everyday since. It has helped me through my sad and angry moments the past few days.
Overall, it is a pretty good CD.

I liked it from the start. I have listened to it for several months, but haven't listened to it anymore since a month because I don't have it anymore! I gave it to a couple of friends who 're not into Prince to listen to it and they all like it. It's now going from one friend to the other, hope it wil end with me again [Edited 11/7/04 6:37am]

All of my non-Prince friends love it too. So they pass around my concert copy If you will, so will I

I wasn't crazy about the Musicolgy CD when I first listened to it. I Played it a few more time and the more and more I played it, the more and more I loved it. It's now definitely one of my favorites - and I have quite a few prince CD's. It jams!

I think the reason I didn't like it at first was because it didn't include any eclectic songs on it. No songs that were sort of cutting edge like Prince is known for. But I now think of it as a Really Good Consistant album.
I did hear a bootleg of the Musicology tour and all of those horns were driving me crazy. I didn't go to the tour,, did he have that horn section on every song at every stop along the tour?

I just had to laugh at how long it took, but to each his own, I always thought it was MASTERPIECE.

I completely agree. It's one of the few cd's that I can listen to from start to finish without skipping anything. I also think that it has several hits just waiting to be tapped, if Prince so chooses to push out more singles. Hope so.

Just as every album since "Purple Rain" has had to grow on me, "Musicology" is no exception. On all these albums, two or three tracks catch my ear first and rest grow on me.
On "Musicology", the first tracks to catch my attention first were "Cinnamon Girl", "A Million Days", and "Musicology". I hated the rest of the album. The majority of the album has finally grown on me except for "Illusion, Coma, Pimp, and Circumstance" and "Life Of The Party". These two tracks probably will never grow on me because they sound too hip hop. Andy is a four letter word.

i'm still not sure what to think of it.
life of the party makes me cringe with those silly lines and beats. cinnamon girl got on my tits from the second listen onwards. and then that whole marrying kind and iiwtmiyl followed by on the couch is boring boring boring. some parts of it sound like a mature and well tought out Prince album with brilliant ideas but other parts sound like him trying to write more hip cuts than teen bands or something. it's sort of like a second diamonds & pearls imo. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

To tell ya the truth EWM, I have to admit that you are right about Musicology. This album started to grow on me like a fugus while myself and a couple of friends were on a road trip. After the roadtrip was over, I did not want to listen but a few cuts on the album b/c I found the restto be mediocre.

If there ever was a Prince album that sounded like a "paint-by-the-numbers" kit, it's Musicology (and I probably listened to it about 10 times through).
For me, there's even more to listen to on NPS; it's more organic and real (and unpretentious) compared to Musicology. After TRC, NEWS and Musicology, I'm questioning my allegience to the current incarnation of Prince. Well, maybe for the live shows; but to my taste, the ONA tour was better too (for the same reasons). *****************************************

I've felt the same way about Prince for a while. I will always be a fan. I just want him to do some crazy stuff. Sometimes it doesn't work when he tries to be funky. I hate when part of the words to his songs say funky and the song isn't. I'd prefer that he do a Joni Mitchell type song. I also hate when he has song titles that includes a word that he made up. It worked on SOTT i.e. Shockadelica. But it doesn't work all the time. It's just silly sometimes. I also hate when he starts talking about past influences i.e Musicology. Sorry I'm just frustrated.
