i know this is hard when the man has made 25 years worth of funk but....can u do it ??? for me id have to say .... Housequake...the performance of this song in the sign o the times movie changed my life...it was the only performance i saw back then that could top michael jacksons motown 25 moonwalking billie jean performance ...and it just shoots me back to how superbad he was back in the mid-late 80's ! shut up already DAMN ! Performance would have to be FOREVER IN MY LIFE from SOTT the movie. I could cite others for the voice, the guitar, the moves or the humour but it's the passion and pain and emotional depth that he puts across, which gets me the most. Song would probably be a dead heat between IF I WAS YOUR GIRLFRIEND and WHEN DOVES CRY 'cause they are just so out there and Princey. I guess i like to be moved as well as entertained. And I agree that Billie Jean was MJ's defining performance but have always thought it telling that at the same time it was lip-synched. [Edited 11/10/04 9:25am]

DARK - it's just perfect. Perfect arrangement, soulful vocals, every instrument section gets the attention it deserves... and the feeling is incredible. That's what I love about prince - he's perfection to the core. "Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies -
tongue-tied and twisted, just an earthbound misfit, I"

"Eye Hate U" Absolutely amazing. The most furious violent sex filled guitar solo ever. (Insert something clever here)

If I had 2 pick ONE Prince song that sums him up and shows his creativity and relevance throughout the Eighties - that would be the winner hands-down 4 me. He was never more in-synch with himself and the world than he was at this particular point - it's the sound of an artist sure of himself, with his finger right on the very pulse of what was happening at the time through clever social commentary rammed home via a catchy and quirky three minute pop song. It was so on the money, it was scary. I couldn't agree more with you, particularly on the social commentary part. I was scratchin my head trying to think of a song until I read your post. Good choice bananacologne!! I'll leave graffiti where you've never been kissed

Sign "O" The Times from the concert movie of the same name. We rented three movies that winter night (it was three for the price of one, which tells about the overall quality of the films stocked in that video store), I was still a teenager by the time - still learning about the ways of men and women (mind you, I still have problems sorting out what goes where, but that's a different story...). My friends said they just had the time to watch two and they would have to hit home, so I took SOTT as the third for myself to watch. We watched the two others and then they left - it was 2AM by the time I got to stick it into the VHS player and...
Wham. Seriously. Wham. I had to take a walk after seeing it.

Lady Cab Driver--so many sound effects and great instrumentation (the bed creaking and spitting water into a sink are my favorites).

BALLAD OF DOROTHY PARKER !!!
This song has everything...Clever wit, humour, longing, taking a bath ( ), fantasy, an intricate, only-Prince-can-do-it funky Linn drum beat...bzarre vocal calisthenics...Pure Prince. Can't belive no-one else put this... Purplehead

Best performance-- On the musicology tour-- he did a cover of "a Whole lotta love" by i think it was either def leppard or somebody like that-- Never heard it before, and i love that i was introduced to something i ignored entirely b4---
He's taken my musical virginity a millionm times over-- and turned me out, baby --YEA song-- damn-- too many to mention-- seems like everytime i buy some other album from his catalogue i feel that way-- schitzophrenic as i am cant choose one. Little Red Corvette was it, until the ONA concert. After that I was blown away by How Come U Don't Call Me, followed closely by Anna Stesia at the same show. Still raises goose bumps
