eek

Woah?

When Star Wars & Empire Strikes back came out, our only other alternatives where Smokey and THe Bandit Part 3, and Annie.

Without these movies many a man wouldn't have had his testicles drop.

And what enlightening distraction inspired the beautifully nuanced subtlety of your post - Proust, perhaps?

So, What isnt childish? I guess fawning over a strange 46 year old 5' 2" man is normal. Im sure that U have defended your prince obsession before. Star Trek and Star Wars is the utmost in creativity....kinda like music.

Dude, you'd best bear in mind that a lot of us Prince fans are children of the 70's/80's... so unless you want us to go all 'Chewbacca' on yo ass, you'd better retract that statement!

'Sides, listen to the man himself, on Sign O' The Times:

"Baby make a speech, Star Wars: fly"! razz
PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman!

nod As great as Star Wars is, I always thought it had a pretty simple plotline.

I don't think it's that simple. But anyway my take is this: Star Wars started off as a great series with a great debt owed to Joseph Campbell (famous mythology and comparative religion professor for those who don't know) and Lucas' wife. I think they managed to incorporate archetypal/mythological/mystical themes into a futuristic context very well, as well as create some very creative scenery, characters and creatures. However, the turning point for me was the death of Boba Fett, after that Lucas lost all inspiration (and guidance) and showed himself as nothing more than a tech-geek and a toy whore, creating technically elaborate yet childish, incoherent and downright moronic prequels (not to mention the cheesiest ending to the original trilogy he could have possibly conceived).

No doubt..

Star Wars and Star Trek are about us in the future for all intense purposes. one must only use your imagination and think what the hell would Thomas Edison say if we walked up to him with a flashlight or Alexander Bell with a cell phone? Some of the gadgets may seem absurd now, but I can see us beaming around the world in the next 100 years or so.

Oh did I mention that the Star Wars Sega has grossed well over $5 Billion and counting. That's not including merchandise.

shrug I liked the original trilogy -even the cheesy ending. I haven't brought myself to watch the prequels. Apparently I'm not missing anything.
