Diamonds and Pearls album

I just bought the Diamonds and Pearls album a few days ago (and yeah, im young) and at first i really didn't care for it much-but then i started to like a few songs on there. I just wanna know what u guys think about this album and what songs are your favorities or the ones u think that suck.

I really love Willing and Able!, Push, Gett Off, and Strollin' ( and that's about it)

I like Thunder, D & P when I'm feeling sweet, Cream always, Strollin' whenever I'm happy, W &A not so much, Gett Off always a lot, Walk Dont Walk I do like, even if it's not revolutionary to me, Jughead I skip, Money Don't Matter 2night I listen for loyalty, because to me it sounds like Prince nowadays. I skip Push, mostly. I love Insatiable, and king of like Live 4 Love.
So there...

I know what ur saying. I'm starting to like Diamonds and Pearls too, but I think that his 1992 album, Symbol is a better investment and a little more consistent than D&P. The one thing I like about D&P is that it's classy. The hologram cover, songs, & packaging is top-notch.

Really, you're not a Prince fan unless U have this. There are some watered-down, forgettable moments here... I mean you'd never hear anyone at a concert going "Omg, I sooo hope he plays Walk Don't Walk!". Still, it's a pretty solid investment for the singles -- Insatiable, Gett Off, Diamonds & Pearls and Money Don't Matter 2 Night are all gold. Also Strollin' is adorable!

mixture of an album...Live 4 Love brilliant,no to Jughead...the rest good
an easy going album...when i was younger it was just about the hologram on the front to see Prince move from side to side.....SILLY GIRL...

I didnt' like it at all when I first bought it.

The main reason is the hype behind the album before it was released.

It was supposed to be the new Prince album that rivaled purple rain.

Prince made a splash early on the very racy Gett Off Video (which had a few people talking). He then topped that by showing his ass at the MTV music awards. It didn't hurt that Arseneo Hall who was the host and the most popular late night host at the time, blurted out "THis is it. This is the reason I took the gig--Ladies and Gentlemen, Prince & the..." with aobut he same ferver as Jimmy Fallen had when he introduced G & R. Within a week , an entire Arseneo Hall show was devoted to Prince, with Patti Label lamenting on how much she loved D&P.

So, when it was released I was expecting so much more. What I got was decent enough to tide me over till the next album, but I was shocked when he scored 3 top ten hits with it (I believe two of them went to #1??).

I thought his followup album was much better, though it had momments that made cringe.

Diamonds and Pearls is a pretty cool album. People here diss it for a number of reasons:

1. Jughead (which I think is funny)
2. Tony M.
3. the hype which surrounded its release (pretty much like the Musicology hype)
4. 'cuz people here judge everything by the 80's

However, if you just focus on the performances and the production of these songs, there's much to like. The band is unquestionably tight, the vocal mixes on a number of songs will give you shivers, and there are as many long-term "keepers" on this album as any other Prince album. (Of course, my "keepers" may not be your "keepers".)

Also, you can sense that some experiments that Prince was trying on Graffiti Bridge bore fruit on D+P and were even surpassed on Symbol.

As a matter of fact, i m beggining 2like Thunder now..its a cool song...i especially like the part when he says.."jumped up in my body with an additude, kissed me on the mouth and said... my leader take me 2"....."yeah yeah yeah..." music but Jughead..ughhh, i just can't get in2 that song. Also Live 4 Love-imean the lyrics are okay and have a good message and all, but i don't really care 4 the beat so much confused but overall, i like the album-its Pretty good i guess.

I'm the first to trash this album, but it's all relative. I like the album somewhat. Everything but Jughead is listenable. Push is the other song I can do without. Insatiable is my favorite on this album.

It's not one of my fav Prince albums, but I do like Thunder, D&P,'Cream', 'Get off', and 'Willing and Able, I'd say those are my favorites songs. 'Insatiable' is much liked by many fans, but it is not one of my favorite slow jams.

Can't fucking stand it...borrowed it from the library and couldn't even bring myself to copy it. The fillers are so terrible that even the singles get tainted...I do like 90's Prince, but that album is just awful.

I love 'Insatiable' and the rest of the singles on that CD...but the fillers made me understand why liking Prince is embarrassing.

I basically feel the same way but, D&P is one of my favorite songs
so I guess my opinion of that particular song is a bit higher
If you will, so will I
