On November 14th, the annual American Music Awards will be aired on ABC. They are using a montage of artists who are nominated and Prince appears twice in this quick montage since Prince is nominated for 'Favorate Male Artist - Soul/Rhythm and Blues' against R.Kelly, Reuben Studdard (why the heck is he nominated?), and Usher..

Musicology is also nominated for "Favorite Album - Soul/Rhythm and Blues" against Alicia Keyes (Diary of) and Usher (Confessions).

Any word if he will attend? He's not on the list of performers.

Damn, what's up with airing it in November? As long as I can remember, it has always been aired in January. I haven't watched it in years.

Unfortunately, Prince probably won't win. He'll probably lose out 2 that lightweight Usher.
Also, I haven't heard anything about him performing, either.

This is the second straight year the awards are in November. I don't know why they changed it to this month. I was hoping they would give the Award of Merit to Prince this year. It's going to Jon Bon Jovi instead, so I guess Prince won't be there at all since the awards Prince is nominated for will most likely go to Usher.

I am sorry y'all but one of the PPs posted on the NPGMC forum that Pince will not be performing, nor will he be presenting an award. So most probably he won't even show up in the audience.

I emailed John Blackwell and asked him 2 questions:

1) Are you guys going to perform on tv again on any of these award shows

2) Are you guys going to release a Musicology Concert dvd

He said " I cant tell you that, sorry"

I dont know if that was the first or second or both

The AMA's changed to November due to ratings and also to give plenty of time between this and the Grammy's. For a long time artists that performed at the AMA's were not allowed to perform at the Grammy's. Dick Clark fought this contract and won and now more 'hot' artists will be able to play both.

Well unfortunetly Prince won the Award of Merit back in '95.

At the closing of the show he was on stage with Quincy Jones and host of other artist with a sucker in his mouth instead of singing.

I remember that show, but I don't think it was the Award of Merit. I remember it being some other type of award and someone else got the Award of Merit (I can't remember who is was). That bit he did with the lolipop I can never forget that. It sure pissed Quincy Jones off (LOL).
