Who played "1999" at midnight, NYE '99?

I was only 9 and totally not into Prince at the time. In fact, I think I was asleep when it happened! I totally regret it now, it would have been ever so exciting. How many of y'all put on the song at the big moment?

Me neither.

I was on a bridge over the river Thames, clambering like everyone else, to get a view of the spectacular "River of Fire" that had been promised (but which never bloody happened!!!)

I remember being in central Brisbane for the big night. They had this really crappy covers band that played "1999" at around 11:00pm. It was so awful!. There should be a law that prevents anyone except Prince from playing that song!!!

wave I played it at midnight- and several other times throughout the evening! Everybody was pissed off. But it was my party & my house - so too bad!
How could I not play it! I waited since 1982 for that moment.

couldn't have been worse than mine. I got a bit ill early at night and so my
friends became very itchy and decided not to go back to the hotel for me to
get an asprin or something. they just made a runner and left me all alone to
crawl back to the hotel through the streets of london.

then I counted in the new millennium as I sat alone in my hotelroom, affraid
that a bomb might go off somewhere and I would be the only person still left
in that fucking hotel.

I went out for a few minutes after the countdown but quickly had to go back
inside cause I was pretty much sick as a dog by this time.

my friends returned the next day at mid day.

sad

one of my few consolences was the warm showers I took and the enormous heeps
of soft towells the personell brought me AND my prince tapes. 1999 was not on
any of them but it was still nice to be able to listen to some good tunes.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

My parents threw a millenium party and played it maybe ten times. They alternated between the original and the new master. I was so sick of that song afterward. And it's my favorite song too!

I managed to time the song to end right as the clock struck midnight and the entire room was jamming to it. Then with like 15 seconds this girl pushed stop (can't just turn it down) to hear Dick freakin' Clark count down from ten. I could have killed her. I know it is extremely petty but that girl I still on my bad list.

Can't remember. However, I do remember anticipating the year, just KNOWING that I would hear it ALL the time. Think I can count the number of times I hear it on one hand.

i was 13- and we went to that TRL bash thing

No Doubt played 1999 and i crapped my pants. i'm not gonna lie biggrin

I think there was a lot of controversy over the song being played, something that Prince didn't want it being played that night, but whatever. I was 13 and I loved it.

I don't know why no one played it at midnight on New Year's Eve, 1998. That's when it should have been played because at midnight it became 1999.

I had it going all night '98-'99. None of the ppl withme knew it, but I had em jamming along like old freaks by the end of the night. At midnight tho' we were at a big party with shitty music. sad

At the millenium (when it REALLY belonged), I was in a tent on my own in the middle of the desert - but I was humming it in my head biggrin
