I've been working on my own - very sloooowwwwly though. I got 1+1+1=3 to come out perfect and made Family Name sound decent. The title track is way hard because the voice is all over the place.

i'd not only buy a de-narrated version of TRC, but i'd probably LISTEN to it about 10 times more than i've listened to the original. that fat albert voice ruins the whole thing for me, i can't help it.
the residents had a similar album years ago, called "god in three persons" - it was a decent album, but it had a redneck soundin' narrator blabbing all the way through. soon after they released the album, they released an instrumental version of the record without the narration. i thought it was a great idea.

I don't have a problem with the narration.
In fact, I'd say it adds to the album, and I enjoy it Although of course, I'm in the minority.

I recall getting a copy with out the narration and my friend telling me the narration was one of the best parts...that it put it all together. WHen I get the release I was very pleased with it. It was sorta Bob George/Camille sounding and clicked with me right off. I have a few problems with some of the songs like Family Name, but for the most part, I have enjoyed it. Actually since I have been hanging out here I have heard the voice/and wedding feast in a different light. Knowing how much these things are hated, makes me notice them more and think I shouldn't be liking it for some reason. Christian Zombie Vampires

Now that would be interesting!! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

I will never understand why people have a problem with Family Name when all it is IS african American History. How do you think Black people in America got their last names? Have you ever met an african with the last name Nelson? I happen to love the song. i think it is one of funkiest songs on the whole album. 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Some people see that song and Muse (would you rather be dead or be sold?) as taking digs at Jews. I'm not sure I can hear that in Family Name, though he says names like Rosenbloom. So many different reactions to the album. It turns out that it was controversial after all. Personally, I think it's great and anyone who thinks he's anti-Semitic, racist, or sexist doesn't understand his music. Check this song out at:

I'm not a fan of the voiceover, but it cracks me up every time I play the beginning of the album because it sounds like he says:

No but I have met a Peterson, Smith, Bender... hell I've even met a great deal of African people with Dutch and French names. Most parts of Africa were basically European colonies until the 20th Century so quite naturally a lot of people there have European names as well.
