I love the song "the marrying kind".. my favorite on the album, in fact.. but i tell you, i cannot figure out what it is about. At one point he's telling a guy that he'll take away his woman, then he's talking about how she's going to buy him shit, and how she needs to lose weight. What the f*** is that about?

Any ideas?

This song is about a man who treats his woman carelessly and is going to break up with her. Prince wants her and is saying to him that if he breaks up with her he will get her. Prince realizes that she is a "catch" so to speak and wants to be with her. (Honey I tried to tell him that you were the marrying kind. A faithful one man woman, best he would ever find. I guess he wasn't trinying to hear that so ain't nothing left to say. I tried to tell him if you run to me I won't run away.) This is my favorite song on the album too because it tells the story of how I got with my wife. My best friend was dating her and wanted to break up with her because he wanted to play around and travel and all this crap. I told him that she was an awesome girl and that he needed to stay with her. He didn't listen and now we are married and he hates me because he realized what he missed. Great song. The opening lyrics are exactly what I told him before he broke up with her and I still gives me chills whenever I hear the opening line to the song. If you leave her now you're never gonna see her again.

I hate this song, because it precisely tells the story of how I got 'without' my wife.

Listened to it once, don't know if I'll ever be able to do it again.

i like the song because of that funny accoriod thingy in it and it makes it sound amazing

Were all the cards laid on the table? As a woman I know how controlling some men can be. If information is withheld what chance does the woman have in making an informed decision? This song sounds to me like someone isn't being told what's up and true love might be wasted.

This is one of my favorite tracks on the album, too. It only has one drawback, and that's how he managed to date the track with the line, "I'm gonna put her on the same diet Missy went on..."

Other than that, excellent track.

This song is not meant to be romantic and loving toward a woman.

It is making a statement about the 'possession' of women. Tooooo many men think they should scoop up a woman and marry her because she's the marrying kind. You know, the kind of woman that would make your momma proud.

Well, what does the woman get outta that? blah blah blah - it ain't about her in the end, only a nucklehead man who got himself a catch that will take care of him all his days.

you're right altavista - not loving comments at all, but a statement of how not to view a woman. The last line of the song says it all. The man is only looking out for himself. Combine that with the Italian narrative...ah hem.
